Senior Water Resources Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Senior Water Resources Engineer to lead the planning, design, and delivery of complex water management projects. This role will involve working across flood risk management, drainage, stormwater, catchment planning, river engineering, and water infrastructure programmes. You will provide technical leadership from feasibility and concept development through detailed design, approvals, construction support, and project closeout, while ensuring solutions are practical, sustainable, and aligned with relevant standards and regulatory requirements.


Key responsibilities will include developing and reviewing hydrologic and hydraulic models; preparing flood studies, drainage strategies, water management plans, and technical reports; undertaking options assessments and risk evaluations; and producing designs, specifications, cost estimates, and tender documentation. You will coordinate multidisciplinary project teams, mentor engineers and technical staff, manage programme and budget requirements, and communicate effectively with clients, contractors, regulators, and community stakeholders. The role will also involve identifying opportunities to improve project outcomes, supporting business development, contributing to proposals, and maintaining high standards of health, safety, quality, and environmental performance.


Applicants should hold a degree in civil engineering, water resources engineering, environmental engineering, or a related discipline, together with substantial professional experience in water resources, floodplain management, drainage, or hydraulic engineering. Professional registration or chartered status is desirable, as is strong proficiency with relevant modelling and design software such as TUFLOW, HEC-RAS, XP-RAFTS, MUSIC, or equivalent platforms. You will need a demonstrated ability to lead technical work, manage competing priorities, interpret legislation and technical guidelines, and present complex information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. Strong written communication, stakeholder management, commercial awareness, and a collaborative approach are essential.
