The team also sees high acuity surgical patients from Endoscopy, General surgery and GI. Average patient stay is 1 to 2 days. The RN staff can expect a 1:5 or 1:6 ratio and can expect an average of 6 to 8 patient discharges per shift. It is a well-staffed, fast-paced environment that values ongoing staff development through a comprehensive orientation program, where managers and educators meet biweekly to refine learning strategies and enhance clinical skills. This makes 1 East Surgery an excellent environment for both experienced Registered Nurses and new graduates eager to build their expertise. The team is supported by Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) who assist with ambulation, labs, and other patient care tasks, ensuring seamless patient support. The presence of dedicated Unit Coordinators and experienced preceptors fosters a nurturing learning environment, making it an ideal place for skill development, professional growth, and long-term career advancement for those committed to excellence in surgical and orthopedic patient care.Our surgeons and team are nationally recognized for excellence through the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP). The standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence- based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing.
