Urgent Care Nurse Practitioner Or Physician AssistantVirginia Oncology Associates, the largest group of medical professionals in Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina devoted exclusively to cancer care and blood disorders, has an exciting opportunity for an Urgent Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to support our CARE Clinical located in our Norfolk office.Responsibilities:Primary full-time coverage of the acute urgent care clinic in addition to the Brock infusion center including evaluation and management of a broad variety of Hematology/Oncology focused urgent issues which may include but are not limited to:Neutropenic feverFatigue/WeaknessDizziness/LightheadednessCancer related painGI symptoms (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea constipation)UTI symptomsSuspected DVTElectrolyte abnormalitiesDehydrationAnemia/thrombocytopeniaStomatitis/Mucositis/EsophagitisSOB/CoughMild/Moderate headacheInfection with stable vital signsOdynophagia/DysphagiaRashEndocrinopathies/Immune related adverse effectsProvide direct urgent care support to hematology/oncology patients in an outpatient settingPerform an appropriate focused or expanded history and examination for acute, complex, and chronically ill patientsInitiate patient work-up in coordination with the patient's primary oncologist to include evaluation, diagnostic testing, ordering and implementation of careProvide oncology-based care in a collaborative practice focusing on urgent or acute issues relating to disease or treatmentCoordinate ED transfers for hospital admission as indicatedCommunicate changes in the patient's status to the primary attending and team in a timely mannerCollaborates and consults with interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe, effective and timely treatment as well as continuity of patient careRapid Response Team Leader during established clinical work hoursBrock infusion room duties include: management of treatment reactions, lab review, available for nurse consult, incident to duties, assess patients chair side, refills, regimen entry/edit, order entry, provide chair side education and consent etc.Prescribe various drug therapiesAssess patient and family needs; provide appropriate educationPromote staff educationIncorporates evidence-based research into clinical practiceDocumentation of interventionsQualifications:3 years ARNP or PA-C experience in Medical Oncology preferredPrevious Urgent Care or Emergency Department experience a plusStrong organizational and time management skillsEffective communication skills are critical to success in this roleEfficient, accurate and timely documentation is expectedStrong team player with a can-do attitude is a must!Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team is essentialGraduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program requiredVirginia state and DEA licensure requiredCurrent ACLS certificationCurrent BLS certificationNo office travel required
