Job Description and Duties

PARK MAINTENANCE CHIEF I / BAY AREA DISTRICT / ANGEL ISLAND STATE PARK 

The primary reporting location is Angel Island State Park, but the position may be required to work at other locations throughout the sector as assigned and based on operational need. This position will work under the general direction of the Senior Park and Recreation Specialist. 

This position will be responsible for the oversight of the facilities maintenance, equipment operation, water and well system, wastewater treatment plant, vessel and boat operation, and other related operations for the San Francisco Bay Sector. The Park Maintenance Chief I plans, organizes, schedules and directs the sector's maintenance program while providing strong leadership, training, and developmental opportunities for the team. This leadership position is essential to keeping our historic and recreational park facilities safe, functional, and welcoming for visitors and staff alike. This position has supervisory responsibility for permanent and seasonal Maintenance staff assigned to the sector.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

Special Requirement/Condition of Employment: Depending on the assigned location, the incumbent may be required to occupy state-owned housing to meet operational needs, or may be offered state-owned housing if available. Housing assignments will be determined in accordance with Department policy, operational priorities, and applicable labor agreements.

Working Conditions

Typical work activities involve prolonged standing, sitting, bending, stooping, and lifting, Works inside and outside in varying temperatures, may have extensive exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odors and or loud noises. May work in remote locations as well as a fast-paced urban environment.

Special Requirements

Per California Code of Regulations (CCR) , this is a sensitive position, and therefore subject to drug and alcohol testing. It should be noted that testing is not mandatory, but is allowed to be conducted only if and when there is a determination of reasonable suspicion as defined in CCR .

United States Coast Guard requires drug testing for all deckhands. Therefore, this position is subject to random drug testing requirements. A pre-employment drug testing is also required. This is a uniformed position, and the employee must comply with all applicable Departmental uniform and grooming standards.
