Graphic Designer
The graphic designer position produces visual solutions to the communication needs of clients, using a mix of creative skills and commercial awareness. Designers need imaginative flair, awareness of current visual trends, working knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite and an understanding of material costs and time limits, all of which can impact a design. Appropriate mediums and styles are selected in conjunction with Associated Students (AS) requirements. Quality visuals are provided to increase marketing effectiveness of AS programming and events, and furthermore to inform and promote AS amongst the SF State student body. Designers balance personal design style with following, upholding & reinforcing the AS brand to increase brand awareness & engagement within the campus community.
Essential Job Functions:
- Ability to work independently, managing multiple projects with a commitment to detail and accuracy
- Comfortable with Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop
- Work well in a team environment
- Developing design briefs by gathering information and data to clarify design issues
- Thinking creatively to produce new ideas
- Quickly & efficiently innovating & redefining design briefs to meet the constraints of cost, time & client needs
- Multitasking: the ability to not only work on multiple projects but to also handle leading and/or supporting roles within different projects
- Using a wide range of media, including photography and computer aided design
- Producing accurate and high quality work
- Contributing ideas and design artwork to the overall brief
- Keeping abreast of design software, particularly design programs
- Capable of working through tight deadlines
- Must be proactive in presenting their ideas and designs to marketing team members
Qualifications:
- Must be a currently enrolled SFSU student with a minimum of 6 units for undergraduates or 4 units for graduates in Fall 2025
- Substantial knowledge and experience with the Adobe Creative Suite (CS5) including Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and other graphic software
- Well organized and detail-oriented
- Self-motivated, takes initiative, able to maintain strong working relationships
- Knowledge of design theory, branding and visual communication
- Familiarity with Canva, Slack & G Suite is a plus
- Photography experience is a plus
