Marketing Coordinator

The Saddleback Communications Team serves as the Creative & Marketing talent for Saddleback Church. What we do touches every aspect of our church and is, most times, the first exposure individuals get to Saddleback Church.


We use graphics, photography, social media, email marketing, personalized messaging, and storytelling to showcase who we are as a church community and, through it, impact the community and world around us.

This position is the connective tissue of our team. He/she owns the church-wide communication calendar — the single place where every promotion, series, and event lives — and makes sure the weekend actually happens: host scripts written, assets delivered to Production and Experience on time, signage thought through, Church News supported. Saddleback Church is looking for a Marketing Coordinator who loves bringing order to creative work so that what our church says on any given weekend is clear, on time, and on mission.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

WEEKEND COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATION

• Write weekend host scripts and announcement copy, tailored to the host and aligned with established on-camera conventions and the Saddleback voice.
• Coordinate and deliver weekend and event assets to the Production and Experience teams on schedule — signs, screens, motion, lower thirds, script versions, and run-of-show communication needs.
• Support Church News: gather and prioritize announcement content, prepare and route drafts, and coordinate revisions with the host, video producer, and Marketing Director.
• Serve as the weekend point of contact for communications questions and be present at weekends and key events as required.

COMMUNICATION CALENDAR MANAGEMENT

• Own and maintain the church-wide communication and promotions calendar — the authoritative view of what is being promoted, on which channels, and when.
• Manage the process for promotional campaign builds; apply agreed-upon prioritization criteria and flag conflicts, over-promotion, and gaps before they reach the congregation.
• Assist with sequencing promotions against the master calendar, message series, and major church-wide initiatives so campaigns launch with adequate lead time.
• Communicate calendar decisions and deadlines clearly to Communications, ministry, and weekend teams, maintaining a high level of customer service across teams.
• Keep the calendar and supporting systems current, and assist with maintaining marketing dashboards and assessment tools.

WEEKLY DELIVERABLES AND PROJECT COORDINATION

• Manage communication projects and campaigns from inception to completion as assigned.
• Support the development and deployment of communication plans within desired timelines that accomplish marketing goals and align with the mission and vision of Saddleback Church.

COPYWRITING, EDITING, AND PROOFREADING

• Write and edit copy provided by the Communications team, other teams, and pastoral staff.
• Proofread copy to identify and fix errors in grammar, spelling, and punctuation before anything reaches the congregation.
• Uphold and steward the Saddleback voice as defined by the Editorial Style Guide.
• Assist with content curation, research on projects, and corroboration of facts and substance of content.

DECISION MAKING

• Empowered to make decisions within the function of the Marketing Team — including calendar sequencing, weekend asset deadlines, and script and copy edits — escalating strategy and priority conflicts to the Marketing Director.

OTHER

• Perform a variety of duties including but not limited to: special projects, assisting other teams, research, and filling in where requested.

WHO YOU ARE:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to communicate complex ideas and projects in a clear and effective way.
• Impeccable grammar and a strong proofreading eye.
• Script and announcement writing for live and on-camera delivery, or a demonstrated ability to learn it quickly.
• Exceptional organization; able to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously without dropping details.
• Calm and clear under weekend timelines; comfortable making the call when an asset is late.
• Organized, creative, and confident, valuing research and accuracy.
• Highly relational; able to work as a team player and discuss needs, challenges, and ideas across teams.
• Thrives in supporting and enabling a collaborative culture aimed toward building better results.
• Proficient knowledge of Google Suite; working knowledge of Adobe CS preferred.
• Sound understanding of marketing principles, effective project management, and excellent organizational skills.

WHAT YOU HAVE DONE:

• 1-3+ years of working experience required.
• 2+ years of experience writing or editing marketing copy for digital and print platforms.
• Experience coordinating projects, calendars, or production schedules across multiple stakeholders.
• An ideal candidate has prior experience in church or para-church communications, or experience in external or in-house agencies in a similar function.

EDUCATION

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, English, Communications, or a related field preferred.

Saddleback Church’s pay philosophy is based on internal and external data for pay equity and budgetary considerations for effective stewardship. The estimated pay rate for this position is $23-25 hourly, depending on experience. We will provide a pay rate within our salary structure that fits a candidate’s qualifications and experience for the job. The posted wage range does not guarantee a specific job offer.
