Business Development Manager - Asset Based Lending

What You'll Be Doing The CIBC US Asset‑Based Lending team seeks a Business Development Manager (BDM) to identify, develop, and assist in closing high‑quality, asset‑based lending transactions. The BDM will expand CIBC’s presence across commercial banking, capital markets, wealth management, and commercial real estate by engaging third‑party financial intermediaries, internal referral sources, and direct middle‑market prospects. How You'll Succeed Prospect new ABL clients, targeting middle‑market, entrepreneur‑led or privately‑held companies, publicly‑traded customers, and financially‑sponsored businesses with financing needs typically ranging from $10MM to $75MM (with syndication opportunities beyond $75MM). Drive new business through quality leads from a broad network of referral sources and regular prospect visits. Identify and pursue cross‑sell opportunities with new clients. Serve as the point person to assess prospective relationships, understand client needs, and recommend appropriate products and services. Maintain an accurate pipeline in the Client Relationship Management system for forecasting. Promote CIBC within the community and industry associations to generate referrals and prospect leads. Participate in fit assessment discussions and help structure new deals that align client expectations with bank requirements. Act as a strategic advisor during front‑end term negotiations. Collaborate with portfolio managers and commercial bankers to deliver ABL solutions and provide ongoing client communication. Provide guidance during credit events and assist in deal negotiation when needed. Who You Are Minimum 10 years of ABL experience. Minimum 5 years of successful business development in a commercial or ABL lending environment, with a focus on quality centers of influence. In‑depth knowledge of the asset‑based lending industry, market structures, and bank/non‑bank competition. Extensive referral source network and a proven record of consistent calling efforts. Proficient in Microsoft Office and familiar with online prospecting tools (e.g., RelPro, Salesforce, Pitchbook, Loan Connector). Self‑starter, comfortable working remotely and in the office, with excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills. Bachelor’s degree or higher. Willingness to travel extensively as required by the territory plan.
