Bookkeeper – Local School

Immediate Supervisor: Principal

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Associate Degree or three years' experience in bookkeeping
• Previous experience in accounting systems preferred

Skills and Abilities:

• Basic computer and other office machine skills
• Knowledge and experience with spreadsheet, database, and accounting software
• Very good writing and oral communication skills

Essential Functions:

• Demonstrates knowledge of Federal, State, and Local restrictions, regulations, guidelines, policies, and procedures related to the area of school finance
• Records detail of school's financial transactions on computerized accounting system
• Issues and posts receipts for funds received
• Receives, processes, and maintains record of all requisitions
• Processes and maintains all record of all purchase orders
• Reconciles school bank statement
• Maintains and updates vendor files
• Receives and processes all invoices for payment
• Maintains complete record of all financial transactions
• Generates and distributes local school financial activity reports
• Reconciles school bank statement
• Develops and implements system for inventory control
• Coordinates payroll processing and submits to district's financial department
• Performs other duties as assigned

Bookkeeper Levels Based on Degree:

• Level I – No post-secondary degree with 3 years bookkeeping experience
• Level II – Associates Degree (AS) in Business-Related Field and a minimum of 6 semester hours in accounting
• Level III – Bachelor's Degree (BS) in Business-Related field and a minimum of 6 semester hours in accounting
• Level IV – BS Degree in Accounting

Physical Requirements:

• Is well-groomed and appropriately dressed
• Represents the school system, school, and all school personnel in a positive manner at all times

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.
