Job Summary The Waring Center for Public Archaeology is developing a five-episode stop-motion animation series exploring the field of archaeology. This position will support the creative and technical production of the series, including completing the design and fabrication of puppets, props, and sets using a variety of artistic techniques and materials. The position will also involve staging and lighting scenes, filming stop-motion animation, and editing the completed footage. If time permits, the candidate will work with the Waring Center Director/Curator to develop stories, scripts, and other creative concepts for future episodes. The Center also regularly carries out public outreach programming, and the candidate must also be comfortable occasionally speaking with visiting school groups and the general public. Other miscellaneous tasks may be required such as team-based monthly lab cleaning tasks and participating in a weekly Waring staff meeting. Required Qualifications The candidate must be a current University of West Georgia student maintaining at least a 2.0 cumulative grade-point average. The position will require manipulating and carrying supplies and equipment. The candidate must be able to work 8 hours per week and for at least 2 uninterrupted hours per shift, minimum. The employee must complete Waring¿s in-house collections management training prior to working on curation projects. Physical Requirements / Working Conditions Some tasks may require using stairs. The position requires the ability to perform detailed, hands-on work associated with puppet, prop, and set fabrication, including sculpting, painting, cutting, assembling, sewing, and working with small tools and a variety of art and craft materials. The position requires sufficient manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to perform fine-detail work and operate cameras, lighting equipment, and other production equipment in a compact, low-light space. Work may involve extended periods of sitting or standing while fabricating materials, filming, photographing, or editing; reaching and positioning objects and equipment; and occasional bending, kneeling, or working at floor level when arranging sets, lighting, or camera equipment. The position may require occasionally lifting, carrying, and repositioning supplies, props, sets, and equipment weighing up to approximately 25 pounds. The position also requires the ability to perform computer-based work for extended periods, including video and photo editing and other digital production tasks. Work will primarily take place in laboratory, studio/workspace, and office environments. Preferred Qualifications Preferred qualifications include experience in animation, film/photography, sculpting (digital and physical), and prop making, as well as familiarity with Adobe Premiere Pro and Photoshop. Experience working in or around a laboratory setting is a plus but is not required. Required Documents to Attach Cover Letter Resume Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Experience using an SLR/DSLR camera and photographic lighting equipment. At minimum, basic computer skills and proficiency are required. Proficiency with video and photo editing software, specifically Adobe Premiere Pro and Photoshop, is preferred. Artistic and hands-on fabrication skills, including experience with sculpting (digital, clay, and felt), painting, textiles (for puppet clothing and portions of sets), model making, or similar creative work, are preferred. Candidates should possess good written and verbal communication, organizational, and time-management skills. A background or interest in archaeology, history, archives, education, art history, museum studies/museum science, or computer science is a plus but is not required.
