This is a 40 hour work week; five 8-hour days, or possible four 10-hour days with schedule to be discussed with supervisor.PurposeTo provide journey level work associated with fire sprinkler systems. Responsible for providing journey level work in the testing, repair, inspection, maintenance, and operation of fire sprinkler systems.ResponsibilitiesPerforms journey-level work in the testing, repair, inspection, and maintenance of fire sprinkler systems to meet NFPA codes using hand tools and monitoring devices.Performs both routine and preventive maintenance on fire sprinkler systems.Provides information to management for new projects and deferred maintenance planning.Reviews designs and maintains proper documentation to ensure compliance with NFPA codes and university construction standards.Maintains inventory control and inspects test equipment for safe and proper operations.Maintains a clean and safe work environment.Coordinates work with outside contractors.Performs work from written or verbal instructions and in accordance with established safety procedures.Performs other job related functions as assigned. Will participate in the On-Call program.Required QualificationsHigh school graduation or GED. Two years of experience in journey level installation, repair, maintenance, and operation of electronic equipment, systems, and components.Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.Preferred QualificationsAssociate's degree in a technical field. Be knowledgeable of the Fire Water Distribution Loop and be product knowledgeable. More than two years of the described experience. Experience at the University of Texas or in a university setting. Demonstrated ability to work as a team member. Customer service oriented. Computer skills. NICET Certification in Inspection and Testing of Water-Based Systems and/or Water Based Systems Layout. Master Plumber License. AutoCAD experience. Essential personnel must maintain contact with their supervisor and report to work as regularly scheduled unless directed otherwise.Required to operate an electronic device such as an iPhone, iPad, or laptop/desktop computer to perform and fulfill time reporting and work management requirements. Work management requirements include receiving work assignments, updating work orders, and other functions as required.May be required to work in confined spaces, manholes, tunnels, elevated work, extended shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.May be exposed to loud noise, high dust and allergen levels.May be required to operate job related equipment.May require tuberculosis screening and occasional use of a respirator.May drive University vehicles.
