Job Title: CNC Operator II / III Job Description
The CNC Operator II / III sets up and operates CNC milling and turning centers to produce precision components according to blueprints, work instructions, and specifications. This role focuses on running proven, repeat-production jobs using established tooling and fixtures, performing in-process inspections, and maintaining accurate production records in a clean, modern machine shop. The position offers multiple shifts, opportunities for advancement, and a strong focus on safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC milling and turning centers using established processes, tooling, fixtures, and documented work instructions.
• Retrieve and review all job-related information, including routings, blueprints, work instructions, setup sheets, and tool lists before starting production.
• Load raw materials, install required tooling and fixtures, and perform routine machine adjustments to prepare for production runs.
• Read and interpret blueprints, routers, and work instructions to ensure parts meet dimensional and specification requirements.
• Perform first-piece and in-process inspections using precision measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other inspection tools.
• Monitor machine operation, including feeds, speeds, and tool condition, and make approved offsets or adjustments to maintain part quality and production efficiency.
• Inspect completed components for dimensional accuracy, quality defects, and overall conformance to specifications.
• Perform deburring and finishing operations on machined parts to meet quality and cosmetic requirements.
• Document production quantities, inspection results, downtime, and other required process information accurately in the ERP system.
• Identify and report tooling, equipment, quality, or process issues to supervision or manufacturing support personnel in a timely manner.
• Maintain equipment and work areas in accordance with safety, quality, and housekeeping standards, keeping the work area clean and free of debris.
• Support a safe, organized, and efficient manufacturing environment by following all safety requirements and guidelines.
• Participate in continuous improvement activities, contribute ideas to improve processes, and support team production goals.
• Assist with training and knowledge sharing with other team members as experience level permits.
• Perform other related duties as assigned to support production and departmental objectives.

Essential Skills

• 1-2 years of CNC operation experience or completion of relevant technical training.
• Ability to set up and operate CNC mills and CNC lathes for repeat-production parts.
• Proficiency in basic machining and inspection practices in a machine shop environment.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, routers, and work instructions.
• Hands-on experience using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
• Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and working with fractions.
• Basic computer skills for accessing and entering data in an ERP or similar system.
• Excellent attention to detail with a strong focus on part quality and accuracy.
• Working knowledge of customer specifications and requirements as they relate to machined parts.
• Strong problem-solving abilities to identify and address machining or quality issues.
• Effective teamwork and communication skills to collaborate with co-workers and support a team environment.
• Understanding of and adherence to safety requirements in a manufacturing setting.
• Commitment to maintaining a clean, organized work area in line with housekeeping standards.
• Ability to meet ITAR-related work eligibility requirements.
• High school diploma or equivalent education.
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds as needed for material handling and machine operation.
• Ability to stand for long periods and perform repetitive tasks throughout the shift.
• Sufficient vision capabilities, including close and distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus, to perform detailed inspection and machine operation.
• Manual dexterity and ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel parts and tools, and to reach with hands and arms for extended periods.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience setting up and running vertical and horizontal CNC mills.
• Experience with multi-axis CNC machining operations.
• Familiarity with CNC programming concepts or making minor program edits.
• Background in general machine shop practices and machining operations.
• Experience performing deburring, finishing, and basic secondary operations on machined parts.
• Comfort working with an ERP or production tracking system for documenting work.
• Interest in career growth toward engineering or leadership roles, supported by internal development opportunities.
• Motivation to participate in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives.

Work Environment
This role is based in a very large, clean, and modern machine shop environment with CNC milling and turning centers and supporting inspection equipment such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges. The facility emphasizes organization, safety, and housekeeping, with an expectation that work areas remain clean and free of debris. Multiple shift options are available, including a day shift (6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday), a swing shift (4:30 p.m. to 2:45 a.m., Monday through Thursday, with an 8% shift differential), and a weekend shift (5:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Friday through Sunday, with a 12% shift differential). The work involves standing for extended periods, handling and moving materials up to 50 pounds, and frequent use of hands and arms for operating machines and inspecting parts. The environment supports focused, detail-oriented work with a strong emphasis on safety, quality, and efficient production.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of North Plains, OR.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $27.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
