Building Controls Technician

Overview The Building People, LLC is recruiting a full‑time Building Controls Technician to support expansion, upgrade, or replacement of building automation hardware and software for smart building infrastructure. The role will be based in Austin, TX and surrounding suburbs, working independently with limited supervision. Responsibilities Design and engineer control system hardware and software programming based on project plans, specifications, and contract documents. Program projects of varying complexity. Troubleshoot network, database, and programming issues. Collaborate with the engineering team on system configuration, network and software requirements, graphics, programming, and sequences of operation. Develop and configure sequences of operation, programming, graphics, database, network, and integrations into third‑party systems. Maintain accurate and thorough project documentation and redlines. Provide owner training as required by the project. Execute system commissioning and functional testing. Assist in installation of control hardware, and start‑up and commissioning of new hardware installations. Provide project management assistance and interface directly with customers. Supervise sub‑contractors and suppliers as needed. Train lower‑level technicians on the job. Position requires a minimum of 25 % travel. Required Skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Programming skills. Strong analytical, interactive, and communication skills. Strong troubleshooting skills. Experience with electronics and basic electrical circuits. Thorough understanding of and ability to use appropriate tools. Excellent customer service and teamwork. Knowledge of DDC control theory and applications related to HVAC equipment. Strong knowledge of DDC communications protocols, e.g., BACnet, LON, Modbus. Required Experience / Education At least 3 years of experience programming, starting up, and commissioning control systems. Niagara AX or N4 certification is a plus but not required. Experience with multiple control manufacturers is a plus. Technical knowledge of installation of control equipment and ancillary devices. Physical Requirements Must be physically able to climb overhead or crawl under spaces to complete jobs. Must be willing to work at heights. Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds at times.
