Student Accounts SpecialistReports to: Assistant Director of Student Accounts Status: Non-ExemptPosition Summary:The Student Accounts Specialist is responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to student accounts. Duties may include providing exceptional customer service (in-person, over the phone, and via email), process student and departmental payments, third-party billing, and answering questions related to student accounts.Responsibilities:Answer questions regarding student accounts, such as account balances, payment options, financial holds, etc.Effectively communicate university policies and procedures related to student accountsAnalyze and investigate accounts to determine accuracy; contact appropriate department or agency to verify validity of transactionsProcess third-party/sponsored student billing, including reviewing letters of credit (LOC), setting-up and maintain contracts, creating invoices, receipting related payments, and reconciling sponsor accountsExecute payment processes, including receipting payments on student accounts and departmental deposits, and daily reconciliation of cashiering sessionsProcess and maintain accurate and timely student accounts recordsMake outbound collection calls on delinquent student accountsCollaborate with other departments and divisions across campusDeliver presentations for the Student Accounts Office at various campus eventsWork with and train student workersOther duties as assigned by Student Accounts LeadershipQualifications:High school diploma or GED equivalent, Bachelor's degree preferredBilingual (Spanish speaking) preferredExcellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbalProficiency in using student information systems, databases, and Microsoft Office Suite applicationsAbility to work in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environmentCommitted to customer service and quality workAbility to handle confidential information with integrity and counsel students in a caring and positive mannerIs self-reliant, proactive, and makes a positive impression on othersPhysical Demands:Ability to communicate via speech, hearing and sight – frequentlyAbility to sit – frequentlyAbility to stand for an extended period – occasionallyAbility to walk reasonable distances – occasionallyAbility to lift or move objects up to 25 lbs. – occasionallyAbility to climb or reach overhead – occasionallyAbility to bend or stoop – occasionallyAdditional Information:Houston Christian University is an independent, private Christian liberal arts institution with a diverse student body.
