Essential Duties and Responsibilities Maintain utmost level of confidentiality at all times. Adhere to hospital policies and procedures. Demonstrate business practices and personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines. Provide the best possible diagnostic study for each patient by applying professional judgment and discretion. Anticipate and respond to the needs of the patient while undergoing radiographic examination. Work with others to elevate the quality of care delivered. Produce quality diagnostic imaging studies. Collect pertinent data about the patient and the procedure. Reconfirm patient identification and verify the procedure requested or prescribed. Assess factors that may contraindicate the procedure, such as medications, insufficient patient preparation or artifacts. Analyze the information obtained during the assessment phase and develop an action plan for completing the procedure. Use professional judgment to adapt imaging procedures as appropriate to improve diagnostic information and outcomes. Consult appropriate medical personnel to determine a modified action plan when necessary. Evaluate lab values prior to administering contrast media and beginning interventional procedures. Select appropriate shielding devices. Determine appropriate type and amount of contrast agent to be administered, based on patient age, weight, and medical/physical status. Review patient chart and physician request to determine optimal imaging technique for suspected pathology. Provide information about the procedure to the patient/family and other health care providers. Verify that the patient/family have consented to the procedure and fully understand risks, benefits, alternatives, and follow-up. Provide accurate explanations and instructions at the appropriate time and level the patient/family can understand. Maintain controlled access to restricted areas during radiation exposure to ensure safety of patients, families and hospital personnel. Address and document patient questions and concerns regarding the procedure when appropriate. Refer questions about diagnosis, treatment, or prognosis to the patient’s physician. Provide appropriate information to other individuals involved in the patient’s care. Consult with other departments, such as respiratory therapy and anesthesia, for patient services. Instruct patients regarding preparation prior to imaging procedures, including oral or bowel preparation and allergy preparation, as appropriate. Ensure all procedural requirements are in place to achieve a quality diagnostic examination. Implement action plans that fall within established protocols and guidelines. Elicit patient/family cooperation to carry out the action plan. Use an integrated team approach as needed. Use accessory equipment when appropriate. Assess and monitor the patient’s physical and mental state while undergoing the procedure. Administer contrast agents according to established guidelines. Monitor the patient for reactions to contrast agent. Use appropriate radiation safety devices. Apply appropriate patient immobilization devices when necessary. Evaluate the goals of the action plan (procedure) to determine that all goals have been achieved. Evaluate the patient and the procedure in a timely, accurate, and comprehensive manner to identify variances that may affect patient outcome. Measure the procedure against established protocols and guidelines. Identify any exceptions to the expected outcome and document them clearly and completely. Review images to determine if additional images will enhance diagnostic value of the procedure. Implement a revised action plan as indicated, basing it on the patient’s condition and the most appropriate means of achieving the intended outcome. Take action based on patient and procedural variances, measure and evaluate the results of the revised action plan. Notify appropriate health provider when immediate clinical response is necessary based on procedural findings and/or patient condition. Document information about patient care, the procedure, and final outcome. Document diagnostic and patient data in the appropriate record (computerized record, requisition, patient log, etc.). Documentation must be timely, accurate, concise, and complete. Assist in the collection of pertinent information regarding equipment, procedures and the work environment. Assist in collecting pertinent data regarding departmental process improvement activities. Ensure that services are performed in a safe environment in accordance with established guidelines. Ensure that equipment maintenance and operation comply with established guidelines. Assess equipment to determine acceptable performance based on established guidelines. Review protocol and procedure manuals at least annually. Analyze information collected and recommend whether changes need to be made to equipment, procedures, or work environment, and discuss any recommended changes with the appropriate supervisor. Elicit confidence and cooperation from the patient/family, the public and health care providers by providing timely communication and effective instruction. Present explanations and instructions at the learner’s level of understanding and learning style. Instruct students and health care providers regarding radiographic procedures and radiation safety. Assist in performing quality assurance activities based on established quality protocols. Monitor image production to determine variance from established quality standards. Evaluate QA results and establish an appropriate action plan for improvement as required. Compare QA results to established acceptable values. Implement a self‑improvement QA action plan as required. Obtain assistance from appropriate personnel to implement the QA action plan. Education and/or Experience Associate’s degree (AA) or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school accredited by the Committee of Allied Health Education and the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology. Registered or registry eligible as an RT‑R by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Must be registered within one (1) year after the hire date. Holds current unlimited Texas CMRT license. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Registered or registry eligible as a Registered Radiologic Technologist (RT‑R) by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
