Safety Specialist

This is a strong opportunity for a safety professional to play a hands‑on role in jobsite safety audits, incident response, training, and regulatory compliance — reporting directly to the Safety Manager. Velocity Safety Advisors is actively seeking an experienced Safety Specialist to support a safe workplace for company employees and subcontractors while ensuring compliance with OSHA, DOT, and client safety requirements. What You'll Do As the Safety Specialist, you will support the company's safety program across active job sites, working closely with Field Leadership, crews, subcontractors, and clients. Field Safety & Jobsite Audits Perform regular jobsite safety audits and complete any necessary remediation within 48 hours of identifying a hazard. Address safety hazards as they occur, working with onsite crews to implement corrective modifications. Manage owner/CM‑specific paperwork onsite and ensure compliance with timely submission. Assist with project‑specific safety orientation as needed. Collaborate with Field Leadership to support safety efforts and assist with onsite management. Meetings & Communication Attend internal and external meetings. Attend morning huddles and provide constructive feedback, including incident follow‑up for the project. Attend onsite safety meetings as required. Know and educate employees on the use of company safety forms. Training & Compliance Perform all safety compliance‑related training. Identify respirator needs and ensure compliance with medical evaluations and annual fit testing. Identify opportunities to collect industrial hygiene data and coordinate with third‑party providers. Maintain all certifications required for jobsite approval as a site‑safety professional. Operate the Company Incident Line as required. Represent the company in the event of an OSHA inspection. Investigate equipment and auto accidents. Provide initial responder care for injured workers and subcontractors on‑site. Maintain communication with injured workers and the company to support a safe return to work. Manage risk across assigned job sites. Assist in the enrollment of subcontractors to the appropriate wrap‑up insurance administrators. Maintain adequate onsite supplies for field personnel. Know and adhere to all company policies and procedures. This list is non‑exhaustive. Job responsibilities may vary based on operational needs and the instructions of the employee's supervisor. What We're Looking For Required Qualifications High school diploma. Knowledge of construction methods, materials, and site logistics. Skilled communicator, mentor, and problem solver with strong conflict‑resolution ability. Skilled in handling sensitive and confidential information with discretion. Strong organizational and time‑management skills. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships. Ability to exercise independent judgment and use company technology and systems. Ability to work in all weather conditions. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds. Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, twist, and climb for extended periods. Ability to maintain balance and coordination on uneven or slippery surfaces. Ability to work around loud noises and heavy machinery. Must successfully pass a pre‑employment drug screening (Drug‑Free Workplace; tests for marijuana). Must be willing to sign a confidentiality agreement upon hire. Must maintain an MVR that meets the company's eligibility requirements. Preferred Qualifications Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in the construction industry. Familiarity with OSHA, MSHA, DOT, and MUTCD. OSHA 500 and OSHA 510 certifications. Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation. The Right Candidate We’re looking for more than a paperwork processor. The right Safety Specialist will be visible and engaged in the field — comfortable walking a jobsite, coordinating morning huddles, responding to injuries, and working directly with crews and Field Leadership to keep operations compliant and safe. You should be confident representing the company during an OSHA inspection, calm under pressure during incident response, and consistent in following through on hazard remediation.
