NURSE-MIDWIFE (Certified Nurse-Midwife)

Job Overview Under medical direction, a Nurse‑Midwife provides care to mothers and babies through the maternity cycle—antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and neonatal—for medically uncomplicated patients. The role also includes gynecological care, including family planning. Responsibilities Review patient chart, assess for abnormalities indicating non‑normal birth. Obtain each patient’s medical history and perform an evaluative obstetric examination. Perform internal pelvic examination to assess dilation, station, position of the fetus, and membranes. Interpret examination results, determine need for physician consultation. Draw blood, complete routine laboratory request forms, perform hematocrit analysis. Manage admitted patients for delivery, administer medications, maintain surveillance of labor, and inform physician of progress or problems. When delivery indicated, notify physician and transfer patient to delivery room. Assist in delivery room, provide emotional support, perform delivery procedures, including pudendal block, episiotomy, repairs, and newborn resuscitation. Make periodic postpartum visits to evaluate mother and baby, instruct in care. Participate in training of nurses, students, and refresher program for nurse‑midwives. Provide gynecological care under medical direction, including pelvic examinations and referral for abnormalities. Deliver family planning services—fitting diaphragms, IUDs, dispensing oral contraceptives, and counseling. Requirements License and Certification : Current and active Registered Nurse license (California Board of Registered Nursing) and Nurse‑Midwife certificate (California Board of Registered Nursing). Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association. All licenses and certifications must be active, unrestricted and presented during the selection process. Desirable Qualification Experience as a Certified Nurse‑Midwife. Physical Requirements Class III moderate: stand or walk most of the time, bend, stoop, squat, twist, reach; work on irregular surfaces; occasional lift >25 lbs; frequent lift 10–25 lbs.
