The Marlene Meyerson Jewish Community Center in Manhattan is looking for a Director of Off-the-Bimah !

The Director of Off-the-Bimah is responsible for leading all aspects of the Off the Bimah program, a two-year B-Mitzvah learning experience for students and their families.

Year 1 students are primarily in sixth grade, with some in seventh grade, and may have limited or no prior formal Jewish education. Year 2 students have completed the first year of the program and are preparing for their B-Mitzvah ceremonies.

Off-the-Bimah ceremonies are cohort-based experiences in which approximately five to seven families participate together.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop and teach the curriculum for all Year 1 and Year 2 sections during the 2026–2027 program year. Classes meet in person Monday through Thursday, with one section each afternoon from 4:30 to 5:45 PM, from mid-September through mid-May.
• Build relationships with current students and their families, and recruit, advise, and orient parents and students entering Year 1 of the program.
• Manage all communication with current and prospective Off the Bimah families and respond to inquiries and messages in a timely manner.
• Identify tutors from the Hebrew Homepage database and match them with Off the Bimah students. Communicate periodically with tutors to monitor students' progress and ensure they remain on schedule in preparation for their B-Mitzvah ceremonies.
• Partner with Sarah Stave, Director of Hebrew Homepage, to support ongoing Hebrew learning for Year 1 students and coordinate payment for Year 2 tutors.
• Plan and officiate two cohort ceremonies during the 2026–2027 program year, scheduled for October 18, 2026, and June 13, 2027.
• Plan and lead two Sunday family programs and one family Shabbat dinner.
• Work closely with the VP, Children + Families and the Director, Tween + Teen Engagement to ensure that all administrative responsibilities are completed accurately and on schedule.
• Collaborate with other JCC professionals who work in Jewish Life and with children, teens, and families.
• Remain current on developments and best practices in supplementary B-Mitzvah education.

REQUIREMENTS

• In person at the Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan
• Weekly teaching Monday through Thursday, from 4:30 to 5:45 PM
• Develop and lead two Sunday family programs
• Organize and run one family Shabbat dinner
• Additional time for curriculum development, family communication, tutor coordination, and program administration

COMPENSATION

• $25,000 for the 2026–2027 program year

Eligible clergy members may designate up to 100% of this compensation as a clergy housing allowance, subject to eligibility requirements and applicable IRS limits.
