Are you ready to take your career to the next level with an innovative, employee-owned company? MBM Facility & Construction Consulting is seeking an Interior Designer to join our South Carolina team in a role that extends well beyond traditional interior design.

This position will support clients throughout the full lifecycle of their facility and construction projectsfrom early programming and space planning through design, budgeting, procurement, construction, installation, and project closeout. We are looking for someone who wants to take ownership of projects, develop lasting client relationships, and grow into increasing levels of responsibility within MBM.

What You'll Do:


The Interior Designer / Owners Representative will work closely with MBM team members, clients, architects, engineers, contractors, vendors, consultants, and other project partners to:

• Lead and support programming, space planning, and interior design for commercial facilities.
• Guide clients through the selection and specification of finishes, furniture, fixtures, equipment, artwork, appliances, and other interior components.
• Assist clients with the planning and coordination of integrated facility systems, including technology, audio/visual, IT/data, security, and related systems.
• Prepare and review construction documents, finish plans, furniture plans, elevations, details, and specifications.
• Review architectural and engineering documents for interior design requirements, constructability, and coordination issues.
• Coordinate interior design requirements with Architecture, MEP, technology, security, contractors, vendors, and other disciplines.
• Manage and track project budgets, schedules, selections, procurement, outstanding decisions, and action items.
• Coordinate furniture procurement, delivery, installation, and project implementation.
• Participate in construction administration, site observations, punch lists, and project closeout.
• Lead and participate in client meetings, clearly communicating recommendations, options, costs, priorities, and project impacts.
• Anticipate upcoming project needs and proactively identify potential issues before they affect budget, schedule, or project delivery.
• Follow issues through resolution and maintain accountability among project participants.
• Develop an understanding of each client's broader facility and operational needsnot simply the individual project at hand.
• Build trusted, long-term relationships with clients and represent MBM professionally in both internal and external settings.

What You Bring to the Table:


The successful candidate will have a strong foundation in commercial interior design combined with the organization, judgment, initiative, and communication skills necessary to become a successful Owners Representative.

• Commercial interior design experience and knowledge, preferably a degree in Interior Design or Interior Architecture.
• Strong programming and space-planning capabilities.
• Experience with furniture, finishes, fixtures, equipment, and specifications.
• Knowledge of commercial construction documentation and detailing.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, and/or related design software.
• Understanding of how interior design coordinates with architectural, structural, MEP, technology, security, and other building systems.
• Ability to review drawings and identify coordination issues.
• Working knowledge of applicable building codes, accessibility requirements, and commercial design standards.
• Experience with vendor coordination, furniture procurement, installation, construction administration, and field observation is preferred.
• Must have a valid drivers license and reliable, safe transportation for job-related travel required for field visits, attending meetings, etc.
• Exceptional organization and the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, deadlines, and details simultaneously.
• A strong project ownership mentalitysomeone who takes initiative, anticipates needs, and follows responsibilities through completion.
• The ability to balance design, functionality, constructability, budget, schedule, and client priorities.
• Comfort discussing project costs, value, alternatives, and trade-offs with clients.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Professional confidence interacting directly with clients, architects, engineers, contractors, consultants, and vendors.
• The ability to listen carefully, understand client needs, and translate those needs into practical solutions.
• Sound judgment and a solutions-oriented approach when navigating difficult or unexpected project situations.
• The ability to work independently while remaining highly collaborative with the broader MBM and PEC teams.
• Willingness to travel as needed for client meetings, project meetings, site visits, installations, and construction observation.

This role is intended for someone who wants their career to grow beyond traditional interior design .

As the individual learns MBM's complete project delivery approach, they are expected to progressively take greater ownership of clients and projects, independently lead meetings and project activities, make informed decisions without constant oversight, and become a trusted representative of MBM.

Longer term, this position can develop into a significant project and client leadership role, including independently managing projects, mentoring future team members, strengthening client relationships, and contributing to MBM's continued growth.

Work Schedule:

• Standard schedule: MondayFriday, 8am 5pm
• The successful candidate should have the flexibility and professional commitment to work additional hours when necessary to meet project deadlines, respond to client needs, attend meetings, coordinate installations, support construction activities, or address other time-sensitive project requirements. Periodic early mornings, evenings, extended workdays, and travel should be expected based on project demands.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to walk and stand for long periods on even and uneven ground, drive for extended and sporadic periods throughout an 8- or 10-hour workday, work outdoors in varying temperatures and weather, stoop and bend frequently, and manage occasional light-to-medium lifting.
