Lead Grain Elevator Operator

Tend, operate, and oversee all areas within the elevator and office Operate Smartsoft, entering necessary information per load Communicate with Smithfield Grain procurement and buyers regarding incoming and outgoing grain contracts Grade grain and manage grading procedures Work with trucks and farmers to load and unload purchased grain efficiently Operate loading and unloading equipment to ship or receive grain products Inspect facilities daily and maintain proper condition of stored grains Assist the facility manager with inbound and outbound logistics Maintain inventories, grain movements, grain condition, and blending to maximize profitability Identify problems or improvements and work with the facility manager on solutions Deal with customers daily Assist with Smithfield Grain work and safety programs Comply with environmental laws and Smithfield procedures Report environmental issues immediately to the supervisor Review and follow the emergency notification process Report to work on all scheduled workdays Perform other duties as assigned Requirements High school diploma or equivalent Grain experience preferred Ability to understand and comply with all safety policies and practices Verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills Effective communication with grain customers Ability to work independently and in a team Availability to work extended weekday and weekend hours during grain harvest seasons Ability to sit, stand, walk, and climb up and down ladders Ability to work at considerable heights Ability to lift up to 50 pounds Ability to tolerate cold, heat, grain dust, grain/mill odors, and noisy conditions Must be able to work weekends and holidays Must be supportive of producing and maintaining high quality grain Willingness to learn and perform different areas of the grain storage process Ability to work in a stressful environment Ability to work effectively with others in a team environment Core Competencies Demonstrates expertise in grain management, including grading, inventory control, and compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
