Police Officer

Perform a variety of law enforcement and crime prevention tasks, investigative work, special assignments, technical and administrative tasks in support of the Police Department.

Examples of duties include participating in law enforcement activities, preparing reports on crimes and activities, attending roll call briefings and administrative meetings, cooperating with other law enforcement agencies, interacting and working with citizens regarding existing and potential law enforcement and crime prevention problems, responding to requests and inquiries from the general public, physically apprehending and searching suspects, assisting other Police officers in conducting assigned duties and responsibilities, participating in accident reconstruction and other specialized duties, serving warrants, preparing statistical and narrative reports, assisting with hostage negotiations, purchasing materials, supplies, equipment, and performing other duties as assigned.

Supervisory/budget responsibilities include none.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include knowledge of operational characteristics, services and activities of a comprehensive law enforcement program, administrative directives, policies and procedures of both the City of Aubrey and the Police Department, pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regulations, technical aspects of crime prevention and law enforcement, geography of the city, safe use of firearms and other modern police equipment, advanced law enforcement principles and the criminal justice system, operational characteristics, services, and activities of various police operations and programs, skill in communicating clearly and concisely, both oral and written, skill in planning, organizing, and managing time effectively, skill in resolving a variety of situations characterized by conflict or danger, and ability to work independently in the absence of supervision.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalency, eligibility for basic certification as a Peace Officer by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE), and a valid Texas Class C Driver's License.

Preferences include priority given to TCOLE certified applicants.

Working conditions include operating department computer equipment, operating patrol car, handgun, shotgun, baton, radar units, radios, computer, printer, etc., working under stress and using good judgment in emergency situations, performing physically demanding maneuvers and activities, working under unfavorable conditions, and working irregular hours including weekends, holidays, and extended hours in emergency, disaster or other situations influenced by workload, staffing difficulties or equipment related repair problems.

Conditions of employment include passing a pre-employment drug test, passing a criminal history check, and passing a motor vehicle records check.
