Job Description

This role focuses on safely dispensing prescription medications, providing clear and compassionate patient counseling, and collaborating closely with healthcare providers to support effective treatment plans. The pharmacist ensures strict compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations while delivering a high level of customer service in a patient-centered environment.

Responsibilities

• Dispense medications prescribed by physicians, nurse practitioners, and other licensed providers in accordance with state and federal regulations.

• Verify prescription information for accuracy, completeness, and appropriateness before dispensing medications.

• Provide patient counseling on proper medication use, dosage, administration techniques, side effects, and potential drug interactions.

• Educate patients on medication adherence strategies and help them understand the importance of following their treatment plans.

• Collaborate with behavioral health providers and interdisciplinary care teams to support treatment plans and improve patient outcomes.

• Maintain accurate and complete prescription, dispensing, and patient records in compliance with regulatory requirements.

• Ensure compliance with all State Board of Pharmacy rules, DEA requirements, and internal pharmacy policies and procedures.

• Support pharmacy fulfillment operations, including prescription filling, labeling, and verification in a timely and accurate manner.

• Handle phone work related to prescription refills, clarifications, and patient inquiries with professionalism and clarity.

• Provide a high level of customer service using a patient-centered, compassionate approach in all interactions.

• Contribute to a safe and organized retail or mail order pharmacy environment by following standard operating procedures.

Essential Skills

• Active pharmacist qualification or licensure, meeting all state requirements to practice pharmacy.

• Demonstrated experience in pharmacy dispensing and fulfillment in a retail or mail order pharmacy setting.

• Strong knowledge of prescription medications, including indications, dosages, side effects, and drug interactions.

• Ability to provide clear, empathetic patient counseling on medication use and adherence.

• Familiarity with State Board of Pharmacy rules and DEA requirements and the ability to apply them in daily practice.

• Proficiency in handling phone-based patient and provider communications related to prescriptions.

• Attention to detail and accuracy in prescription filling, verification, and recordkeeping.

• Strong customer service skills with a patient-centered, compassionate approach.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working in a retail pharmacy environment.

• Experience supporting mail order pharmacy operations.

• Experience in prescription filling and verification workflows.

• Comfort working in a fast-paced pharmacy setting with multiple priorities.

Work Environment

The role operates in a professional pharmacy environment that may include both retail and mail order pharmacy settings. The schedule follows standard daytime hours, typically around 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM on weekdays, providing a consistent and predictable workday. Work involves standing for portions of the day, interacting with patients and healthcare providers in person and by phone, and using pharmacy systems and equipment to support prescription filling and verification. The environment emphasizes regulatory compliance, accuracy, and patient-centered service, with established procedures to support safe and efficient pharmacy operations.

This is a Contract position based out of Lake City, FL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $70.00/hr.
