Instrumentation Technician I - Process Control & Maintenance

Job Summary OC San is currently looking to fill the role of an Instrumentation Technician I . Responsibilities Maintain, calibrate, and repair process control instrumentation and related equipment under general supervision. Implement additions or modifications to control systems and troubleshoot electrical, electronic, microprocessor‑based, pneumatic, and mechanical process control components. Install, modify, and reprogram process control components such as VFDs, panels, cables, PLC/DCS, and other control system additions. Interpret piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID’s), instrumentation loop drawings, electrical schematics, and control program logic. Use test equipment to isolate, diagnose, and correct failures; calibrate instruments and test systems per design specifications. Coordinate maintenance and repair activities with other divisions and source parts, equipment, piping, and wiring as needed. Perform general duties as assigned related to process control instrumentation and system operations. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or G.E.D. supplemented by specialized training such as a relevant trade school in instrumentation technology or a related field. Two (2) years of experience maintaining, calibrating, installing, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical process control instruments. Must possess a valid California Class C Driver’s License. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of instrumentation and controls systems’ calibration and maintenance with conventional/best-practice/industry-standard methods, tools, equipment, and safety procedures. Effective troubleshooting and repair skills with experience in I&C systems related to wastewater/chemical processing, electrical power generation with internal combustion engines, generators, emissions monitoring, PLC/SCADA/DCS, and industrial control networking systems. Ability to create, process, and review field data and technical documentation to produce reports/analyses; proficiency with MS Outlook, MS Excel, MS Word, and IBM Maximo/CMMS. Familiarity with Beamex Field Calibrator and Communicator. Salary Hiring Salary Range: $45.25 – $49.87 per hour (starting salary within this range based upon qualifications). Physical Demands Mobility to work in and around wastewater treatment plants, pump/lift stations, and related utility systems and facilities. Ability to sit, stand, walk on level, uneven, or slippery surfaces; frequently reach, twist, turn, kneel, bend, stoop, squat, crouch, grasp, and make repetitive hand movements. Climb and descend ladders; operate hand and power tools and equipment; drive a motor vehicle and visit various OC San sites. Perform moderate to heavy physical work, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials averaging 51 pounds or heavier, with proper equipment or assistance. Possible entry into confined spaces and use of confined entry equipment and protective safety equipment. Vision to inspect and operate equipment; field work requiring frequent walking in operational areas. Finger dexterity to operate and repair tools and equipment. Environmental Elements Field work in and around facilities with exposure to loud noise, temperature extremes, inclement weather, road hazards, vibration, confined workspaces, heights, chemicals, mechanical/electrical hazards, hazardous substances and fumes, dust, and air contaminants. Potential interaction with upset staff and public representatives when enforcing policies and procedures. Other Requirements May be required to work extended hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays when necessary. Standby and call-back duty, potentially including nights, weekends, and 24‑hour emergency call‑outs with little or no notice. Probationary period per OC San policies; at‑will status prior to successful completion of probation.
