Position:   Bilingual Program Clinician (Mental Health Therapist)

Salary:         $78,000.00-$82,000.00 per year 

Reports to:   Program Director (Behavioral Health Component)

Status:   Full Time; Exempt

PROGRAM SUMMARY:

Community Youth Center of San Francisco’s Behavioral Health Program provides culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and community-based mental health services to youth, transitional-age youth, adults, and families throughout San Francisco. The program is designed to reduce barriers to care and improve access to behavioral health support for underserved, immigrant, low-income, and limited-English-proficient communities.

Services include individual and family counseling, case management, crisis intervention, care coordination, mental health education, support groups, outreach, assessment, and referrals to community resources. Behavioral Health staff work closely with CYC programs, schools, families, healthcare providers, government agencies, and community-based organizations to provide coordinated and client-centered support. The program emphasizes cultural humility, language accessibility, relationship building, and strengths-based care. 

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Under the supervision of the Clinical Director and Behavioral Health Component Program Director, the Bilingual Program Clinician/Mental Health Therapist is responsible for providing clinically appropriate therapeutic support services to youth ages 6–25 and their families, including youth involved with probation or the juvenile justice system. Clinical services are provided in multiple community settings, including SFUSD schools, CYC offices, via telehealth (phone and virtual), and in other settings that are accessible and comfortable for clients. A significant portion of this clinician’s work will involve direct engagement with low-income parents and family members who are monolingual Chinese-speaking or who otherwise prefer to receive services in Chinese. The Clinician will also maintain a small caseload of individual therapy clients, typically 6–10 clients.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Provide parent psychoeducation, skills training, bilingual therapeutic translation, and emotional support to identified Chinese parents and families, including parent support groups and parent consultations.
• Provide family therapy for identified CYC clients.
• Provide clinically appropriate therapeutic support services for youth of all races/backgrounds between the ages of 5 – 25, which include clinical assessment, screening, diagnosis, individual psychotherapy, treatment planning, progress notes, and discharge planning, etc.
• Develop and conduct individual and family interventions that address each youth’s unique social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
• Provide comprehensive case management services and linkages, advocate for client and family access to services, and collaborate with all systems involved with the family.
• Deliver services in a manner convenient to families, which may include occasional home visits or evening calls or sessions.
• Work with the parent/family to motivate and reinforce their child’s behavioral changes.
• Maintain clinical documentation in compliance with SFDPH required standards.
• Act as liaison between all systems (i.e., schools, Juvenile Probation Department, Public Defender’s Office, community partners) and CYC.
• Participate in CYC clinicians' meetings and co-facilitate group supervision for CYC Trainee groups.
• Contribute to any quality improvement/outcome measurement tracking, development, and data gathering as assigned.
• Participate in assigned CYC staff retreats, community events, and agency fundraiser activities.
• Make appropriate referrals to CYC programs and other agencies.
• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master’s degree in psychology, counseling, marriage and family therapy, social work, or a closely related behavioral health field, plus a minimum of one year of direct experience working with youth, including individual and family counseling and parent psychoeducation.
• This position will receive supervision from a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) or Licensed Clinical Psychologist who is qualified to provide supervision to master’s- or doctoral-level students or graduates who are completing required clinical hours toward graduation or licensure, as applicable under the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) or Board of Psychology requirements.
• Experience working with Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) youth and families experiencing mental health needs is strongly preferred, particularly experience supporting Chinese-speaking, immigrant, or newcomer families.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, Cantonese, and/or Mandarin are required.
• Experience using Epic (SFDPH electronic record) is a definite plus
• Knowledge of community-based agencies in San Francisco
• Ability to work with ethnically diverse groups of low-income youth
