Utility Equipment Operator

Equipment Operator The Equipment Operator is part of the Water, Gas and Wastewater division and will work with a team responsible for maintaining the City’s utility infrastructure. The position will operate equipment such as an electric sewer rodding machine and a CCTV push camera, along with various tools and machinery, to maintain and inspect city‑owned sewer laterals and mains. The operator works independently or as a member of a work crew, receiving direction from a supervisor or lead. Responsibilities Repair existing laterals and manholes. Replace sewer lateral traps with cleanouts. Locate cleanouts for maintenance. Clean sewer mains. Chemically treat mains for root control and set out poison for rodent control. Record and diagram completed work on work orders and job prints for submission to supervisor. Set up barricades, flashers, and cones to protect work sites. Perform preventative maintenance on city‑owned sewer laterals and mains. Ideal Candidate Written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude. Good public contact skills. Skill in the use of hand tools. Ability to communicate with others and assimilate and understand information. Ability to operate assigned equipment. Ability to make sound decisions consistent with essential job functions. Ability to follow instructions both orally and in writing. Minimum Qualifications Completion of high school, GED, or equivalent. One year plumbing or construction experience. Special Requirements Possession of a valid California Class B driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within six months of appointment with proper endorsements.
