Senior Estimator

We are seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to lead the preparation of accurate, competitive, and commercially sound estimates for a varied portfolio of projects. Working closely with project managers, engineers, procurement teams, subcontractors, and clients, you will assess project requirements, interpret drawings and specifications, and develop detailed cost plans from initial enquiry through to contract award. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded professional who can combine strong technical knowledge with sound judgement and a proactive approach.


Your responsibilities will include reviewing tender documentation, identifying scope gaps and potential risks, preparing bills of quantities and detailed pricing schedules, and obtaining and analysing supplier and subcontractor quotations. You will maintain estimating databases, benchmark costs, apply appropriate margins, and ensure all submissions are completed accurately and within agreed deadlines. You will also support value engineering initiatives, contribute to bid strategy, attend tender clarification meetings, and provide clear handovers to delivery teams once work is secured. The role will involve mentoring junior estimators and helping to improve estimating processes, systems, and reporting standards.


Applicants should have substantial experience in a senior estimating or pre-construction role, ideally within construction, engineering, infrastructure, or a related project environment. You will need a strong understanding of construction methods, commercial principles, procurement practices, and contract documentation, together with the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications. Excellent numerical, analytical, and organisational skills are essential, as is confidence using estimating software and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel. Strong communication and negotiation skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines are also required. A relevant technical, commercial, or construction-related qualification would be advantageous. The successful candidate will be collaborative, commercially aware, and committed to delivering high-quality work while maintaining professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
