Principal Scientist, Oral Formulation Sciences

Principal Scientist role in oral formulation development within Merck's Pharmaceutical Sciences and Clinical Supply organization. Leads CMC project teams and formulation development from early-stage first-in-human through market formulation, while driving technology strategy and building organizational capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead formulation development of new chemical entities from first-in-human through final market definition and manufacturing robustness
• Design experimental approaches, execute experimental plans, and analyze data to guide pipeline development and strategic direction
• Mentor technical staff and coach team members in formulation and process development using Design of Experiments
• Spearhead due diligence of pipeline assets and drug delivery technologies, representing organization on cross-functional teams
• Coordinate clinical supply manufacturing, packaging, release, and scale-up activities at pilot and commercial manufacturing sites

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or related field with 8+ years industry experience
• Or M.S. degree with 10+ years relevant industrial experience
• Or B.S. degree with 14+ years relevant industrial experience
• Extensive experience with conventional and novel drug product technologies and pilot plant operations
• Deep knowledge of formulation science, excipient attributes, and formulation-process interplay
• Proven ability to lead complex cross-functional teams and independently design complex experiments
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
