Research Associate, Discovery Biology

Position Title Research Associate, Discovery Biology Reports to Associate Director, Discovery Biology Status Regular, Full-time, Exempt Summary We are seeking a creative and highly motivated Research Associate to join our Discovery Biology team at our South San Francisco location. You will work closely with members of the drug discovery team to conduct and oversee biological testing of new inhibitors. Responsibilities Executing in vitro experiments to identify and characterize small molecules inhibiting viral infection Optimizing and validating cell-based or biochemical assays to support ongoing discovery projects In collaboration with senior research member, make detailed observations, analyze data, and interpret results Effectively supporting multiple projects and learning new techniques to support novel exploratory discovery work, as needed Reporting experimental data to team of scientists internally Utilizing data analysis software and MS Office applications Managing compound inventories and assay data Participating in general lab maintenance including reagent preparation, ordering of general lab supplies, and maintenance of equipment Qualifications B.Sc./M.S. or equivalent degree in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Virology, or relevant scientific discipline Minimum of 2‑3 years of relevant experience in industrial or academic settings, preference given to experience in a drug discovery setting Strong expertise in assay development, cell biology, and molecular biology techniques, e.g. ELISA, cell viability, reporter, and viral infection assays; mechanism of action studies; (RT)qPCR; molecular cloning; transfection; western blot; etc. Must be comfortable working in a BSL2 setting with potentially infectious agents Demonstrated expertise in ensuring good laboratory practices and BSL2 standards Ability to present experimental rationale and data to other scientists Motivated, and proactive cell biologist and/or molecular virologist with desire to work in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications, molecular cloning programs, GraphPad Prism and scientific informatics tools for data input, analysis, and management Pay Range Pay Range: $87,000 - $91,300 annualized. The stated pay range for this position reflects the San Francisco Bay Area job market. Assembly Bio establishes pay ranges based on geographic work locations. Additional factors such as academic credentials and relevant experience will influence the actual salary offered.
