We are a grassroots, donor, and volunteer‑fueled community nonprofit serving families in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Polk and Hernando counties with compassion, practical help, and a willingness to make a huge difference. What we offer Salary: $43,000 - $45,000 Group health, vision, and dental coverage at affordable rates, with family coverage options. Preventative care is 100% covered (free) on all plans. PTO is offered to full‑time and part‑time employees. 11 days of PTO and 10 paid holidays annually. Option to participate in the 401K plan with employer match. $15,000 in employee Life Insurance paid for by Metropolitan Ministries. Employee Assistance Program. Job Functions The Intake Specialist assists with the daily functions of intake, provides support to interns, and ensures families going through the intake process experience hope, dignity, and access to appropriate programs, resources, and shelter. Essential Responsibilities Completes intakes and follow‑ups with potential residents and their families, ensuring accurate information and resources for intake completion. Ensures intake flows efficiently, minimizing wait times for clients seeking shelter and responding to questions promptly. Assists with monitoring program referral processes to ensure clients are referred to the appropriate program(s). Enters data into electronic platforms, ensuring data elements are updated in real time and completes all required paperwork according to deadlines. Maintains and monitors families and singles on the wait list, ensuring follow‑up from initial application through shelter entry and coordinating regular updates. Reviews documents and determines additional paperwork needed, using Motivational Interviewing to gauge client interest and share information with the CM team during family transfer meetings. Ensures clients receive services that fulfill our mission, instilling hope with respect and dignity. Assists with conflict resolution with intake clients, providing resolutions while maintaining dignity and a positive customer service experience; escalates cases to Supervisor when necessary. Develops relationships with referral sources to ensure ongoing referrals and ease of referral process. Ensures clients that do not meet criteria receive hopeful, empathic connections to more appropriate services or community referrals. Provides recovery and counseling assessments to intake clients as needed. Communicates regularly with other team members and interacts in a positive, constructive, and helpful manner to promote cohesiveness and provide resolution. Coordinates resident move‑ins in established timeframes, ensuring efficiency and occupancy at a minimum of 95%. Participates in community outreach and committees as directed, maintaining partnerships related to client services. Attends weekly team meetings and participates actively as a team member. Meets personal goals and contributes to the achievement of team and organizational goals and KPIs; supports holiday tent operations and other tasks as assigned. Requirements Education and Experience: A Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred. Must be knowledgeable about the homeless population and needs, with experience providing intakes and assessments in a fast‑paced environment, and be able to engage families. Skill Requirements: Bilingual (Spanish) preferred. Must work within a multidisciplinary team framework; strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; dependability; demonstrate maturity and sensitivity to cultural and individual differences; handle job‑related matters professionally, diplomatically, and confidentially; work with minimal supervision while seeking and accepting direction; be well‑organized and detail oriented. Physical Requirements: Hearing and speaking ability for effective communication; physical and emotional stamina to manage job‑related issues and stress. Other: Must demonstrate legal authorization to work in the United States, communicate effectively in English, possess a valid Florida driver’s license with a good driving record, and an insured vehicle for transport when necessary.
