Substation Protection and Controls Engineer

Substation Protection & Controls Engineer As a Substation Protection & Controls Engineer, you will design and support substation protection and control projects for electric utilities ranging from 12 kV up to 500 kV. You will use digital logic design, AC and DC circuit concepts to develop schematics, branch diagrams, and bill of materials, and provide construction support. Responsibilities Relay one‑line, three‑line AC, and DC protection schematic design. Panel layout and wiring design with quality control checks. Develop bill of materials based on design criteria. Support projects from scoping through final implementation. Apply National Electrical Safety Code minimum requirements and client standards. Work with CAD technicians to create required drawings. Provide construction support and field testing/commissioning assistance. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field. 4+ years of substation protection/control design or field testing/commissioning experience. Experience executing substation protection and control projects. Strong communication skills to interact with internal teams and clients. Ability to read and design one‑line, three‑line, AC/DC schematic, and wiring drawings. Meeting deadlines under pressure. Team collaborator and self‑starter with strong analytical skills. Computer competency at a high level. Willingness to travel to project/client sites. Preferred EIT or PE certification. Experience with quality control checks on small substation protection projects. CAD tool experience. Master’s degree in related field. Field testing/commissioning experience. Location & Schedule Hybrid schedule: 1–4 days in the office in the Framingham, MA client‑servicing territory for MA, CT, NH, RI. Remaining days remote.
