Paid Intern (Multiple Divisions)

We work hard every day to build the public’s trust and confidence in our court system, which includes issues such as bail reform, marijuana decriminalization and recovery court. This is a paid internship for Spring 2025, Summer 2025 and Fall 2025. Interns will perform a variety of clerical, administrative, supportive tasks and customer service duties in connection with proceedings instituted before the Court. Interns may assist with data entry, look‑ups, filing, making photocopies and other tasks. Flexible schedules are available. Internships may be available for the following divisions: Civil, Criminal, Criminal Pre‑Trial Services, Family, Ombudsman and Operations. Please specify in your cover letter which division you are interested in, as well as any alternatives, and note the semester(s) you are available. Hours and days are flexible but must be between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Responsibilities Prepare filings for judges and staff review, including document retrieval, and provide documents to chambers Assist with answering phones, returning calls, and receiving and distributing voicemails Research caseloads Calendar management Moderate virtual hearings Assist with client contact for newly assigned cases and reminders Perform special projects Conduct research and analysis Perform computer‑related work Collect and enter data Provide customer service Draft correspondences and memos Attend community planning meetings Assist staff as directed Follow up with treatment providers and defendants Qualifications 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university pursuing a degree. Unofficial college or university transcript must be included in your application to be considered. Physical ability: Must be able to climb, stand, stretch, bend and reach; lift and carry supplies weighing from 30 to 50 pounds, and occasionally up to 75 pounds. Driver’s license: Required only if operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform essential duties. Authorization to work: US citizenship is not required. Selected candidates must be authorized to work in the US according to DHS regulations. Background check: Must agree to a thorough background check that will include fingerprinting. Data will be kept confidential except to inform the applicant of the findings. Residency law: Must establish and maintain a principal residence in New Jersey within one year of hire, unless an exemption is granted. Salary & Hours Hourly rate: $20.00. Position limited to a maximum of 35 hours per week, not to exceed 944 hours in a fiscal year. Interns required to work a minimum of 10 hours.
