Assistant Director of Events and Marketing Position: Assistant Director of Events and Marketing. Department: Office of Career Services. Location: San Diego. Employment type: Full‑time. Detailed Description The Assistant Director directs the Career Development Center’s engagement and visibility through strategic event management and comprehensive marketing initiatives. Responsibilities include leading signature and campus‑wide events, managing budgets and logistics, overseeing digital and print content, and applying data‑driven innovation to maximize impact. Duties and Responsibilities Event and Engagement Management Logistics and Engagement: Lead operational execution of high‑visibility events, career fairs, and signature programs. Provide strategic oversight across the event portfolio to ensure effective execution and impact. Oversee event registrations, space reservations, vendor management, layout planning, and staffing. Maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders and ensure strong engagement. Execute promotional campaigns to maximize awareness and student engagement. Select and manage event and marketing vendors in compliance with procurement policies. Collaborate with campus partners to optimize event experience and attendance. Lead programming within a defined budget and develop a comprehensive event calendar. Experience: Enhance user experience (UX) and impact at all events. Drive attendance and visibility of Center initiatives. Capture media and leverage for future marketing. Evaluation and Enhancement: Collaborate with Assessment & Data to evaluate event impact. Collect feedback to refine strategy. Use data‑driven approaches to innovate future engagements. Integrated Marketing Strategy and Execution Strategic Planning: Implement marketing and branding campaigns that promote the Center’s mission. Lead promotional efforts across the Center’s technology ecosystem. Oversee key messaging and media strategies. Partner with University Marketing to maintain consistent messaging and provide career content. Execute communication campaigns to faculty, staff, partners, and stakeholders. Content and Collateral Production: Direct workflow for collateral, marketing, and promotional requests. Develop graphics, photography, video, and digital media initiatives. Design marketing collateral including brochures, flyers, and the Summer Internship Award Magazine. Administer and oversee the Center’s website for optimal UX. Produce weekly newsletters and manage social media accounts. Digital Media: Share Center stories and successes across digital platforms. Archive event photos and videos and produce interview content. Publish video stories on social media, website, and presentations. Coordinate with central marketing to broaden reach. Supervision and Management Supervise student interns, student employees, and coordinator staff. Onboard and train new staff on advertising, marketing, and event policies. Contribute to strategic planning and event management. Identify opportunities for increased participation and program awareness. Recommend operational improvements aligned with department goals. Analyze data to refine marketing and event efforts. Represent the Center to professional associations. Provide a supportive learning environment for staff and students. Background Check Successful completion of a pre‑employment background check is required. Degree Verification Official education transcripts must be provided for degree verification. Job Requirements Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or related field, or equivalent experience. A high school diploma plus two additional years of work experience may substitute, with one work year equal to two education years. Minimum three (3) years of event management and/or marketing experience. A Master’s degree may substitute one year of required experience. Proven ability to lead strategic planning for integrated events and marketing initiatives. Demonstrated leadership and mentorship of student employees, project teams, or staff. Experience working with creative and cross‑functional teams to meet high‑volume production deadlines. Relevant combinations of skills and experience will be considered. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree or extensive experience in marketing, communications, and event planning. Higher education setting experience. Experience with Canva and Adobe Creative Cloud Suite. Experience with photography, studio lighting, and videography. Website CMS experience, especially Cascade Server. Experience with Notion. Performance Expectations – Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strategic planning, data‑driven decision‑making, and budget management. Event direction, operational oversight, and project planning skills. Consulting, networking, and interpersonal communication. Creation and editing of marketing collateral, social media content, reports, and web pages. Organizational, detail‑oriented, and time‑management skills. Strong writing, compiling, editing, and proofreading abilities. Adobe-based skill set including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Canva. Graphic design and digital content creation skills. Familiarity with Career Services technology, CRM, and vendor platforms. Capacity to design inclusive communications and programs for diverse audiences. Knowledge of formal supervision and staff training. Goal setting for professional development and continuous improvement. Understanding of the University’s mission and values. Outreach to employment communities, professional associations, and alumni. Compensation Salary: $5,859 – $6,613 per month.
