Air Quality and Meteorological Instrumentation Specialist and Lab Manager

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform and maintain initial, routine, and recurring calibrations of reference equipment.
• Send in calibration and audit instrumentation to vendors for annual recertifications.
• Maintain recertification schedule of more than 200 unique pieces of equipment.
• Maintain certification, inventory, and reorders of more than 100 calibration gases at remote locations.
• Develop SOP’s to aid field technicians perform routine tasks, troubleshooting, and repair.
• Remotely assist field technicians with troubleshooting and repairs.
• Perform preventative maintenance and train field technicians in procedures.
• Ensure compliance with EPA QA Handbook Vol. II and Vol IV, and other pertinent regulatory guidance documents.
• Must be a self-starter and self-motivated with the ability to work alone or within a team dynamic.
• Must exhibit strong time management, communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
• Hybrid position between mostly office & some travel.
• You must have the ability to travel between 1-3 days a week. Transportation will be provided.
• This position is Monday-Friday. (Very rare weekend trips could be required.)
• May have opportunities to conduct onsite installations of meteorological and air quality equipment.
• Assist with field research operations including analyzer maintenance and calibrations in remote areas.
• Provide meteorological sensor and air quality instrument calibration, maintenance, and audit services for numerous clients in the United States with most in the Intermountain West.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

• 5+ years’ experience with meteorological and air quality equipment preferred.

• 5+ years’ experience with Teledyne API, Thermo, Mocon, and Met One air quality analyzers and monitors. Experience with Campbell Scientific data loggers and equipment, RM Young, and Met One sensors.

• Preferred work experience in industrial, manufacturing, power, and scientific sectors.

• Strong understanding of EPA’s QA Handbook Vol. II, Vol. IV, MMGRMA, Ozone TAD, PSD Monitoring Guidelines.

• Prior experience as laboratory lead, exhibiting demonstrable ability to work in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment with strong adherence to organization and timeliness.

• Proven ability to troubleshoot complex systems, AC/DC power, solar power systems, analyzers, and scientific instrumentation of all sorts.

• Strong ability to read and understand technical documents, manuals, engineering drawings, etc.

• This position requires strong work ethic, attention to detail, problem solving skills, and the ability to work both with a team and independently.

• Basic mechanical understanding is preferred.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, meteorology, or engineering is preferred. Practical field experience. Working knowledge of state and environmental (EPA) rules and regulations. Proficient in MS Windows operating environment, plus MS Office experience strongly preferred. Strong client interaction and internal/external communication skills.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to speak, read and write general business correspondence in English.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Must be able to travel freely and frequently. Must be able to function on feet for up to 12 hours per day at field sites. Multi-day field efforts are not uncommon. Climbing of towers may be needed.
