Transportation Planner 1

Job Description Gathers, compiles and analyzes transportation data, including traffic counters and flow data, to create basic complexity modeling for existing and proposed transportation systems such as roads, bridges, highways, tunnels, and tolls. Reviews existing models and recommends improvements or changes as necessary. Leverages transportation systems, models, simulations and data to prepare basic complexity studies of existing or proposed transportation systems. Creates transportation surveys, exhibits, and other meeting materials as needed to identify areas of public concern and facilitate public and stakeholder input. Leads and performs traffic count and safety studies. Reviews proposed transportation project sites for alignment with draft designs and plans. Reviews transportation plans for compliance with applicable local, state, and federal laws, and escalates any legal compliance issues as necessary. Performs other duties as required. Collaborates with engineers to research, analyze, or resolve transportation conceptual and schematic design issues. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Urban, Community, or Regional Planning or a related discipline. 0 or more years of related experience; equivalent additional directly related experience is considered in lieu of a degree. Domestic and/or international travel may be required, with the frequency contingent on specific duties and project demands. Skills and Abilities Basic knowledge of principles and methods for moving people or goods by all transportation modes, and an understanding of current transportation trends and issues. Basic knowledge of government regulations and agency rules. Basic knowledge of the practical application of regional and community planning, including applying principles, techniques, procedures, models, and equipment to study and design the movement of people, goods, and services.
