Pizza Maker Position Summary Joey’s Pizza Makers prepare pizza for customers by operating all kitchen equipment, maintaining the kitchen, cooking other restaurant menu items and packaging food items. They may also direct less-experienced workers and assist with additional restaurant duties as needed. Pizza Maker Duties and Responsibilities Prepare Food This position will prepare pizza and other appetizer and side items from the restaurant menu according to standard recipes. The Pizza Maker often deals with special customer requests and dietary concerns and must be sure to fill these orders properly. They’re responsible for maintaining the standard quality of the food as well as consistency, and must be able to produce large volumes of food in a short amount of time. Handle Food In order to comply with all policies and regulations, the Pizza Maker must be knowledgeable of local and federal food handling laws and regulations, including codes from the FDA and USDA, and may be required to obtain a food-handling license. They use this knowledge to ensure that all food preparation is compliant to standards and regulations, maintain kitchen cleanliness, uphold personal hygiene standards, and ensure kitchen safety protocols are always followed. Plate or Package Food After preparing the food, the Pizza Maker is responsible for its presentation, making sure it is ready for customer consumption. This involves plating the item appropriately, placing it on display or packaging and wrapping the item appropriately for take-out, and maintaining appropriate temperature and freshness of food. Train Staff As the Pizza Maker gains experience, they will typically become responsible for training newer kitchen employees. They’ll teach other employees how to prepare pizza according to recipe and train them in all safety, sanitation, and food handling protocols. Pizza Makers must be able to work quickly and calmly in a fast‑paced environment, have strong leadership skills to train and direct other kitchen staff members, and pay great attention to detail to ensure the standard operation of the kitchen and efficient production of food. Requirements Showing a capacity to train others. Having a flexible, open schedule. Possessing basic recipe reading and measurement skills. Showing basic cooking knowledge. Obtaining relevant food and beverage certifications and licenses. Being capable of operating basic kitchen equipment. Preferred Skills Knowledge of safety and sanitation regulations.
