We are currently looking for individuals with rail experience to join our Logistics team: This position follows company policy for loading out of rail cars. This position operates various equipment through the use of controls for the purpose of loading finished quality sand product into the railcars for shipment within MSHA safety standards. This position will perform additional tasks related to rail shipments including railcar inspection and the unloading of railcars. The position will work under the supervision of the Logistics Shift Supervisor but will require taking direction from other Smart Sand managers. This position is based primarily at our Blair, WI facility. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Works with Locomotive Operator on hopper car spots and movement. Helps with product transitions. Inspects hopper car for product loading. Properly pulls samples from each rail car and documents for QA testing. Inspects hopper car after product loading, for possible contamination. Connects loading equipment to the hopper car. Inspects and ensures loading unit equipment is working properly. Loads hopper car according to loading procedures, quality standards, and safe practices. Checks the hopper car after loading to ensure there is no leaking product. Communicates with management on any problems that occur. Secures loaded hopper cars. Receives and transmits information by radio and telephone. Couples and uncouples cars, operates switches, and makes minor repairs to railcars, including replacing heavy couplings or air brake hoses. Maintains awareness of surrounding area and suspicious activity to ensure all rail safety. Wears all protective clothing that may be required to transfer the product in a manner that ensures maximum personal safety. Performs other duties as assigned. Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent. Trained to do all tasks for Load Out Crew proficiently required. Conductor certification or 1-year rail yard experience with switching required. Proficient in computer operations. Able to troubleshoot issues in Load Outs. Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Must be a self-starter and able to work with minimal supervision. Good judgment is required. Must be adaptable and have the ability to work in a fast‑paced environment. Must have high safety standards for self and others. Must be able to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate effectively with others. Must be willing to work any assigned shift, overtime, weekends, and holidays. Must be able to read.
