Clinic Registered Nurse (RN) - Dermatology

Job Description This role involves providing professional nursing care to pediatric patients following hospital policy, procedures, and clinical practice guidelines. The RN will coordinate care, conduct assessments, and communicate with patients, families, and the healthcare team. Overview Prescribes, delegates and coordinates professional nursing care to pediatric patients through the use of the nursing process in accordance with hospital policy/procedure and clinical practice guidelines. Meets job‑specific standards and demonstrates competency in identified skills for the area. Essential Functions Conduct holistic age‑specific patient/family assessments upon visit according to defined standards. Assessments/reassessments are completed according to the appropriate CPG or protocols and unit standard of care. Collect and document data related to the patient’s physical, mental, developmental, emotional and social condition. Demonstrate age‑specific competency in assessment of patients by obtaining and interpreting information in terms of the patient’s needs, knowledge of growth and development, and understanding the range of treatment needed. Assess family expectations for and involvement in the assessment and continuous care or treatment of the patient. Meet families’ expectations during their visit to the clinic. Communicate plan of care to the patient/family so they can understand. Identify/assess the need for MD involvement or a potential change in plan of care. Ongoing patient/family assessments are completed according to the appropriate CPG, protocol and unit standard of care. Document and evaluate nursing actions. Chart audits meet JCAHO and organizational expectations; must meet overall goal of 95% (FER, clinic problem list, signatures, pain assessment, etc.). Facilitate timely communication to/from patient/family and other healthcare disciplines; answer patient‑care related questions, requests, etc. Phone calls are returned the same business day received. Review patient charts as assigned to facilitate coordination of care by assuring completion of tests, consultations and procedures, interdisciplinary follow‑up and referrals as needed for the clinic visit. Follow up on tests, lab results, and other findings thoroughly and within established time frames; lab tests are followed up on within 48 hours after results obtained. Consider cultural, cognitive, emotional, and social influences on the patient/families’ ability and readiness to learn. Document all teaching on the FER to include understanding of topics taught. Provide provider support: gather patient information in a timely, concise, thorough manner and convey this to the MD. Assist MD in clinic to maintain good workflow and meet expectations of customers in relation to being on time. Demonstrate effective delegation techniques. Perform special tasks and procedures within the scope of practice for an RN unique to ambulatory care clinics (database entry, scheduling of special procedures, assisting in special procedures, inpatient role, case management, and education/teaching). Complete duties with expertise, timeliness, organization and attention to detail. Communicate effectively through written documentation or verbally to appropriate individuals. Coordinate patient care to ensure continuity of care. Maintain regular attendance at work; attendance is an essential function of the job. Perform physical requirements as described in the Physical Requirements section. Education Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited school of nursing (Required). Associate’s Degree from an accredited school of nursing (Required). Experience Qualifications Minimum 1 year of RN experience; incumbents with less than 1 year must commit to full‑time work in a Nurse Residency Program. Experience with pediatric patients (Preferred). Previous experience with EPIC (Preferred). Licenses and Certifications Registered Nurse (RN) state licensure and/or Compact State Licensure valid in Nebraska (Required).
