Summary Assumes full responsibility for evaluating patient needs for physical therapy, plans and executes individualized treatment programs in accordance with the State of Michigan licensure and PT scope of practice, maintains treatment skills through continuing education, evidence‑based research, and program development and performs job responsibilities in accordance with the program’s strategic objectives. Essential Job Responsibilities Provide patient care, treatment, and services within the scope of license, certification or registration and as required by law and regulation. Evaluate patient condition. Establish treatment goals in collaboration with patient, family and treatment team; develop written treatment plan; administer treatment; delegate to PTAs and rehabilitation technicians. Re‑evaluate patient status and effects of treatment; revise treatment plan as necessary. Evaluate medical equipment needs, order appropriate equipment, assess equipment upon delivery and instruct patient, family and healthcare workers on its use. Participate in planning for patient discharge, considering patient, family, community services and environmental limitations. Demonstrate competence in relevant software and hardware required for job responsibilities. Document patient status and progress through initial evaluation, progress notes, and discharge summary in accordance with internal/external time standards and reimbursement guidelines. Communicate with others to integrate physical therapy treatment with all aspects of patient care. Instruct patient and family in physical therapy procedures and provide education, including written instructions as necessary. Attend meetings and in‑services as designated. Follow all hospital policy and procedures, including patient confidentiality and infection control. Meet or exceed program productivity expectations. Provide discipline‑specific coverage within the Mary Free Bed system as requested. Adhere to the Mary Free Bed Standards of Behavior when working with patients, coworkers, and community members. Support program operations as assigned. May perform additional items to meet program or hospital needs, including participating in orientation and training of new staff, serving as a clinical instructor for physical therapy students, supervising, teaching, and evaluating student skills, and participating in program development and research activities assigned. Meet or exceed clinical outcome collection and performance/improvement goals established by department leadership. Essential Job Qualifications Graduate of Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). Licensure required in every US state and territory where the therapist practices; meet state laws. Possess and maintain BLS certification to meet department/program protocol. Physical Requirements Lifting and moving patients up to 75 pounds, transporting or positioning patients, and exerting force up to 75 pounds may occur frequently. Physical activity may involve walking, standing, and crouching throughout the shift. The role does not require carrying over 100 pounds or operating heavy equipment on ladders.
