About the Role
The Company is seeking a Chief Operating Officer (COO) for its East Market, which encompasses a significant portfolio of hospitals, clinics, post-acute services, and EMS operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for the market's overall performance, including financial results, productivity, quality and safety, patient experience, and growth. This role demands a leader with a graduate degree in a relevant field and a minimum of ten years' senior healthcare operations leadership experience, with at least five years at the executive level. The COO will be expected to run daily operations, build common operating practices, lead alongside clinical and operational leaders, and maintain durable, constructive relationships with labor unions. A key focus of the role is to move care delivery toward value, ensuring access, affordability, and reliable follow-up after discharge. Applicants for the COO position at the company should have a proven track record of delivering results at scale in finance, operations, and clinical quality. The ideal candidate will have a history of making decisions that benefit the larger organization and a strong partnership with physicians that has yielded tangible results. Experience in a union environment, including through negotiations, and a range of communication skills that are effective with both frontline staff and a governing board, are essential. Preferred qualifications include operating experience across different healthcare settings, command of Lean or a similar improvement discipline, and a record of developing leaders. The role requires a leader who is adept at change management and is at home in a mission-driven organization, with a leadership style that is inclusive and focused on the development and retention of a strong operational team.
