Patient Access Professional I - Casual/PRN

Job Summary Location: Methodist Hospital – 8303 Dodge St., Omaha, NE Work Schedule: Casual/PRN; hours vary based on department needs. Responsibilities Greets patients professionally and uses triage guidelines to alert the clinical team of urgent situations. Follows EMTALA and Code Triage processes when registering patients in the Emergency Department. Accurately records patient demographics, financial information, and insurance details, ensuring all data is correct and up-to-date. Creates “quick registration” for patients, collects identification and insurance documents, and obtains copies for the patient. Communicates and de‑escalates anxious or upset patients or family members, maintaining a calm environment. Verifies insurance eligibility, completes Medicare Secondary Payer questionnaires, and processes payment or collection procedures per policy. Reviews financial responsibility estimates with patients, documents collection attempts, and consults with the Patient Financial Counselors as appropriate. Collaborates with the clinical team regarding patient status and facilitates smooth transition to the bedside for registration completion. Ensures all registration records are current and complete, including scanning insurance cards and updating electronic files. Performs point‑of‑service collections and reports any cash discrepancies to a supervisor. Job Requirements Education: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred. Experience: Previous health‑care registration, customer service, insurance or billing experience required; medical terminology preferred. Licenses/Certifications: Ability to provide transportation within a reasonable timeframe; American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) preferred. Skills & Knowledge: Strong computer literacy (Outlook, Word, Excel, scanning, copying), basic mathematics for collections, proficiency in phone etiquette and medical terminology, ability to multitask, and strong attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to work independently, collect patient data, transport patients or guests, communicate effectively through barriers, and handle crisis situations. Physical Requirements Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force. Physical activity: Occasionally required to balance, carry, crouch, pull/push, stand, stoop, twist, walk; frequently required to reach, repeat motions, sit, speak; constantly required to hear and see.
