Job Description:
The Coordinator of Elementary Literacy and Social Studies Instruction is responsible for providing curricular leadership for elementary literacy and social studies (4K-5th Grade) under the direction of the Director of Teaching and Learning. 

Position objectives include:  
Providing leadership in the development, articulation & implementation of an exemplary literacy and social studies curricular program and assessment leads the curriculum review and adoption cycle supports the development of professional learning communities leads the mentor programming and onboarding for new staff.

Job Duties/Responsibilities (not all encompassing):

• Provides leadership to assure correlation between district curriculum and state/national standards. Develops, coordinates, and monitors the program of instruction for secondary math and science and oversees annual updates of curriculum guides.
• Manages Title I and Title III Grants and coordinate with private schools who access these grants in the West Allis community.
• Provide coaching to elementary Instructional Coordinators and lead their professional development.
• Assists teaching staff with the implementation of new curriculum guides and new instructional materials.
• Lead the resource adoption cycle, resource pilots and adoption, implementation and monitoring of resources across all elementaries.
• Leads the mentor programming and onboarding for new staff.
• Coordinates projects with other curriculum coordinators and administrators within Teaching and Learning.
• Collaborates with the Director of Teaching and Learning to develop strategies and broad departmental objectives; establishes methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for projects, programs and people in
• the achievement of strategic objectives.
• Design, coordinate, and facilitate district wide professional development.
• Plan and implement district wide elementary summer school.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Teaching & Learning.

Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree.
• Deep pedagogical knowledge of the Science of Reading, with preferred certification in LETRS or an equivalent, evidence-based early literacy training program.
• Demonstrated success in administering, monitoring, and ensuring compliance for Title I programming and funding.
• Five years of successful experience as a leader in education.
• Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality.
• Ability to work productively both as a member of a team and independently.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Demonstrates a commitment to West Allis-West Milwaukee’s Beliefs.

Physical Requirements:
These involve the physical capabilities needed to perform the duties of the job:

• Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods, up to six hours in an eight-hour day.
• Ability to multitask and handle multiple projects under tight deadlines.
• Ability to perform light physical work, frequently lifting up to ten pounds without assistance in an indoor setting.
• Ability to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person to provide information and assistance.
• Ability to move throughout the building and from building to building.
• Ability to complete job activities in an environment where background noise and frequent interruptions are the norm.
• Ability to maintain concentration and focus on tasks requiring timeliness and accuracy.

Supervisory Requirements:
These relate to responsibilities for overseeing students and sometimes other staff:

• Supervision of students in classrooms, hallways, playgrounds, field trips, and extracurricular activities.
• Enforcement of school policies and behavior expectations with students.
• Coordination with teaching assistants, aides, or volunteers (where applicable).
• Communication with parents/guardians regarding student performance and conduct.
