Job Title: Direct Sales Engineer – Virginia Territory

Location: Ashland, VA (Territory coverage across Virginia)

Position Type: Full-Time

Reports To: National Direct Sales Manager

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Direct Sales Engineer to drive direct-to-end-user sales across the Virginia territory. This is a true "hunter" role focused exclusively on developing direct commercial and industrial customer relationships—not managing distributor, rep, or partner networks. You will identify opportunities, engage plant managers and facility engineers, deliver tailored technical thermal/steam solutions, and manage the complete sales cycle from prospecting to close.

Compensation & Earning Potential

• Base Salary: $80,000 – $95,000 annually (commensurate with experience)
• Commission Structure: Uncapped incentive plan; Year 1 target commission is +30% of base with significant upside for overachievement
• Year 1 Total Expected Compensation: $124,000 – $143,000 (at target)
• Years 2–3 Total Expected Compensation: $150,000 – $200,000+ based on pipeline development and performance
• Additional Incentives: Bonus package (details finalized upon offer)

Key Responsibilities

• Direct Business Development: Proactively hunt for and qualify new business opportunities directly with commercial and industrial end-users across Virginia.
• Technical Consultation: Perform on-site customer assessments to evaluate steam loads, fuel efficiency, and facility operational challenges; configure tailored, engineered equipment solutions.
• Proposal Delivery & Closing: Formulate comprehensive technical and commercial proposals, present ROI and lifecycle cost analyses to plant managers and C-suite executives, and close capital equipment sales.
• Territory & Pipeline Management: Drive disciplined follow-up across multi-month industrial sales cycles, log activity within the CRM, and maintain accurate territory revenue forecasts.
• Safety & Compliance: Adhere to all standard operating procedures, customer facility safety protocols, and regulatory guidelines.

Qualifications

Required:

• 3+ years of experience in technical, engineered, or industrial equipment sales
• Proven track record of sales success with at least 2 consecutive years meeting or exceeding quota
• Self-starting "hunter" mentality with the ability to prospect independently and manage an expansive regional territory
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or a related discipline (or equivalent direct industry experience)
• Strong interpersonal, presentation, and written/verbal communication skills across all organizational levels
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and general CRM/computer software

Preferred:

• Background in industrial capital equipment or machinery sales
• Working knowledge of commercial/industrial steam flow, boiler systems, heat transfer, or thermodynamics
• Hands-on proficiency with Salesforce or comparable CRM/ERP platforms
• Familiarity with basic capital expense accounting, operating budgets, and lifecycle ROI models
