About the Role
The Company is seeking a General Counsel to serve as its principal legal officer, providing strategic legal counsel and risk management guidance to executive leadership, the Board of Governors, and other organizational stakeholders. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing legal affairs, governance, risk management, litigation management, contracts, and legal and regulatory compliance to protect the organization's interests and support the achievement of its mission and objectives. This role involves serving as a legal advisor on a wide range of matters, including compliance, employment, and risk management, and requires a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school, with a minimum of ten years of progressive legal experience. The General Counsel will also be involved in the review and negotiation of various legal instruments, monitoring compliance with regulations, and advising on youth protection regulations, employment law, and organizational risk mitigation strategies. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in governance, compliance, and organizational risk management, and experience in a complex organizational setting, such as nonprofit, government, or military. Supervisory responsibilities include leading and developing legal professionals and other resources supporting the organization's legal, governance, compliance, and risk management functions. The role demands a collaborative approach, the ability to work effectively with volunteer leadership, and a commitment to the mission and values of the organization.
