Position Title: Airport Project Coordinator — Special Systems Job Description: The Special Systems Project Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supporting the design, implementation, integration, testing, and closeout of special systems associated with Airport construction and technology projects. These systems may include structured cabling, telecommunications, network infrastructure, security systems, CCTV, access control, audio/visual systems, fire alarm systems, building automation systems, and other low-voltage or technology-based systems. The coordinator works closely with contractors, consultants, vendors, Airport Information Technology, Security, Operations, Maintenance, project managers, and construction managers to facilitate system integration, maintain project schedules, minimize impacts to Airport operations, and support compliance with project requirements, Airport standards, and applicable codes and industry standards. Special systems frequently interface with electrical, mechanical, architectural, life-safety, and information technology scopes. About the Position: Join the Salt Lake City Department of Airports as an Airport Project Coordinator — Special Systems, where you’ll help deliver the technology and security systems that keep a world-class airport running. In this role, you’ll coordinate the planning, installation, testing, and integration of critical systems—including telecommunications, network infrastructure, CCTV, access control, fire alarm, audio/visual, and building automation systems—throughout airport construction projects. Working closely with project teams, contractors, Airport stakeholders, and technical experts, you’ll help ensure projects stay on schedule, meet quality standards, and integrate seamlessly with airport operations. Position Salary Range: $74,191 to $87,284 annually based on qualifications and experience. This position is eligible for full city benefits, including: Health Insurance Dental, Vision and Life Insurance Paid vacation and personal leave 6-12 weeks of paid parental leave available Retirement contributions toward a pension plan and/or 401(k) A robust Employee Assistance Plan (EAP) Up to $4,000 tuition reimbursement annually Discounted supplemental benefits like pet insurance and legal services Typical Duties: Coordinate special systems construction activities with contractors, consultants, vendors, Airport stakeholders, project managers, and construction managers. Monitor the progress of special systems work to support compliance with project schedules, construction documents, contract requirements, Airport standards, and applicable industry standards. Track project milestones, submittals, RFIs, equipment deliveries, testing activities, deficiencies, punch-list items, and other required deliverables. Facilitate coordination between special systems work and related electrical, mechanical, architectural, life-safety, telecommunications, and information technology scopes. Assist in reviewing plans, specifications, technical submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, substitution requests, and proposed changes related to special systems. Coordinate meetings, site activities, inspections, testing, commissioning, system demonstrations, cutovers, shutdowns, and turnover activities. Verify that required inspections, testing, commissioning, documentation, and corrective actions are completed by the responsible parties. Identify and communicate schedule impacts, coordination conflicts, system compatibility concerns, long-lead equipment issues, and other project risks. Maintain accurate project records, status reports, meeting notes, action-item logs, deficiency logs, testing records, and punch lists. Follow up with responsible parties to confirm action items, deficiencies, and outstanding project requirements are addressed within established timeframes. Coordinate access, badging, escorting, operational restrictions, shutdown notifications, and other Airport requirements affecting special systems work. Support project closeout by tracking the completion and turnover of operation and maintenance manuals, warranties, required training, test reports, asset information, and other closeout documentation. Provide regular updates to DCM project and construction managers regarding project status, risks, outstanding issues, and upcoming activities. Perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or Facilities Management, Environment Science or a closely related field and five years full‑time paid professional experience of acceptable level and quality in the heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC), controls, or energy management industry, preferably including experience in managing a computerized energy management control system/building automation systems. Education and experience may be substituted one for the other on a year for year basis, but must include a minimum of five years of experience in energy management and applying energy efficient building operations/maintenance or construction principles. Knowledge of theory, principles and practices of energy integrated demand-side resource planning techniques; Able to apply modern methods and techniques used to conserve energy in the operation of electrical, mechanical, telemetry, and instrumentation elements in a wide variety of facilities, design and use of computer-controlled electrical and mechanical equipment as it relates to energy management and energy project implementation; data processing and computer systems used for conserving energy; research and analysis techniques; micro-computer applications pertaining to the work; and project management tools and techniques. Experience applying energy conservation principles and practices within an energy program; experience in energy project identification and implementation, demonstrating knowledge of federal and state regulations and programs related to energy supply and demand; methods of energy conservation and generation; resource technology and application. Knowledge and experience in the use of LEEDs guidelines and recommendations; possess LEEDs certification or able to obtain LEEDs certification within 6 months of employment Ability to use a personal computer and related programs including word processing and spreadsheet, data base, facility management applications and building automation software. Knowledge of management principles and practices including experience energy studies, budgeting processes and resource allocation. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and build consensus with individuals of diverse backgrounds, with varied organizational needs and differing priorities. Possession of a valid driver’s license or driving privilege card in order to work with various City Department representatives, public, and private organizations outside of assigned office area. Working Conditions: Moderate physical activity. Required to push, pull or lift medium to heavy weights, and to stand, sit or walk uncomfortably for extended periods. Kneeling, bending at the waist, and reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally, and climbing ladders, stairs to make necessary inspections. Moderate exposure to elements such as heat, cold, dampness, fumes, noise, dust, or grease. Intermittent exposure to stress as a result of human behavior and the demands of the position.
