Lead Quality Assurance InspectorApex - Pittsfield - Pittsfield, MA 01201OverviewSalary Range $27.00 - $27.00 Hourly Position Type Full TimeDescriptionJOB PURPOSE:The Lead Inspector is responsible for performing inspection activities while providing day-to-day leadership and technical guidance to the inspection team. This role serves as the primary resource for inspection processes, quality standards, and compliance requirements, ensuring products meet customer, regulatory, and company quality expectations. The Lead Inspector assists with coordinating workflow, training personnel, resolving quality issues, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:Perform in-process, final, and receiving inspections in accordance with company procedures and customer specificationsLead and coordinate daily inspection activities to ensure priorities and production schedules are metProvide guidance and technical support to inspectors regarding quality standards, procedures, and inspection methodsTrain, mentor, and onboard new inspectors and support ongoing employee development.Review inspection reports, records, and documentation for accuracy and completenessAssist in investigating nonconformances, customer complaints, and internal quality issuesSupport corrective and preventive action (CAPA) activities and verify effectiveness of implemented actionsServe as the primary escalation point for inspection-related questions and concernsCoordinate with Production, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality Management to resolve quality issues and improve processesEnsure compliance with customer requirements, company procedures, and applicable regulatory standardsMonitor inspection workload and assist in prioritizing resources to meet operational needsParticipate in audits and support audit preparation activitiesIdentify opportunities for process improvement and recommend actions to improve quality, efficiency, and complianceAssist management with performance feedback and evaluation of inspection personnelMaintain a safe and organized work environment in accordance with company policiesKEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Provide daily direction and work assignment coordination for inspectorsPromote consistency in inspection practices across all shifts and areasFoster a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvementAct as the Quality Department representative in the absence of Quality Management when appropriateSupport employee engagement, training, and development initiativesQualificationsEXPERIENCE, SKILLS, EDUCATION AND TRAINING:EducationHigh School Diploma or GED requiredAssociate degree or technical certification in Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, or related field preferredExperience5+ years of inspection or quality assurance experience in a manufacturing environmentPrevious experience training, mentoring, or leading team members preferredExperience with quality management systems and manufacturing processesKnowledge, Skills & AbilitiesStrong understanding of quality inspection techniques and methodologiesAbility to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, blueprints, and work instructionsKnowledge of GD&T, inspection equipment, and measurement techniquesFamiliarity with root cause analysis and corrective action processesStrong problem-solving and decision-making skillsExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to prioritize multiple tasks and work independentlyProficiency in Microsoft Office and quality documentation systemsEquipment UsedCalipersMicrometersHeight gaugesOptical comparatorsCMMs (coordinate measuring machines)Various precision measurement instruments and quality management softwareKey Performance Indicators (KPIs)First-pass yield and defect reductionInspection accuracyOn-time completion of inspectionsInternal and external audit performanceTraining completion and employee developmentReduction in quality escapes and customer complaintsContinuous improvement participation and resultsWORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Physical RequirementsAbility to stand, walk, and inspect products for extended periodsAbility to lift up to 25 pounds occasionallyVisual acuity sufficient to perform detailed inspections and measurementsOther Special RequirementsSupport cross functional teams and departments as requiredPerform job duties in accordance to ISO 13485/9001 including ISO auditsTravel may be required to support company initiativesSafety ResponsibilitiesEnsure that all safety procedures are followedEnsure that all equipment safeties are not altered or defeatedDirect ReportsNoneNOTE: This job description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all possible duties, responsibilities and or qualifications.
