Production Assistant

The Production Assistant supports high-volume manufacturing operations by keeping production lines supplied with materials, assisting with packaging and scrap handling, and maintaining a clean and organized work area. This role helps ensure continuous, efficient production while upholding quality, safety, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and food safety standards in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Keep assigned production lines continuously supplied with boxes, packaging materials, separators, and other required production supplies.
• Assemble and tape boxes according to established quality standards, ensuring proper construction and secure sealing.
• Monitor tape machines regularly, including checking water levels, temperature, and tape inventory, and refill or adjust as needed.
• Remove unused materials during product changeovers and return them to designated storage areas to maintain organization and reduce waste.
• Communicate material needs clearly and promptly to forklift operators to prevent production interruptions and delays.
• Stack completed boxes neatly on pallets, ensuring proper placement, stability, and clear label visibility for accurate identification.
• Transport completed baskets and bulk-pack materials to designated staging areas using a manual pallet jack in a safe and efficient manner.
• Inspect pallets for damage, correct improperly stacked pallets, and remove damaged pallets from production areas promptly.
• Restock separators and other production materials throughout the shift to support continuous production flow.
• Produce quality products by following Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and all food safety requirements.
• Operate the baler as part of a rotating assignment, following safety and operating procedures.
• Monitor the baler for jams, clear jams safely when necessary, and ensure continuous operation.
• Collect scrap materials from the production floor and transport them to the baler area for processing.
• Remove, stack, and band aluminum scrap bales onto pallets for storage or transport.
• Clean scrap accumulation areas and participate in end-of-shift cleanup activities to maintain a safe and tidy environment.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and clutter-free work area throughout the shift.
• Remove cardboard, banding, used material cores, and other waste materials regularly and dispose of them appropriately.
• Assist with general housekeeping duties throughout the production facility, including common areas and walkways.
• Keep walkways and work areas clear of obstacles to support safe and efficient operations.
• Follow all required personal protective equipment (PPE) guidelines and safety procedures at all times.
• Adhere to environmental health and safety policies and report any safety concerns promptly.
• Follow all company quality and food safety standards, including inspection and handling procedures.
• Perform basic quality checks and visually identify product defects, escalating issues as needed.
• Follow written and verbal instructions accurately to complete tasks and meet production requirements.
• Work effectively in a fast-paced production environment, managing multiple tasks and adjusting to changing priorities.
• Perform repetitive hand and arm movements while maintaining consistent quality and attention to detail.
• Collaborate with team members and support others as needed to keep production running efficiently.
• Take initiative to restock materials, tidy work areas, and address minor issues before they impact production.

Essential Skills

• Ability to read, write, and perform basic math calculations.
• Basic reading, writing, and math skills sufficient to follow instructions and complete documentation.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify product defects and maintain quality standards.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately and consistently.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing or production environment.
• Capability to stand and walk for the majority of the shift, up to approximately 8 hours.
• Ability to frequently bend, stoop, squat, twist, reach, and perform repetitive hand and arm movements.
• Ability to lift and move materials, including up to 10 lbs frequently, 11–20 lbs regularly, and up to 50 lbs occasionally or regularly as required.
• Ability to operate a manual pallet jack safely around moving machinery and production equipment.
• Comfort working in environments with dust, fumes, noise, and temperature fluctuations.
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and a safety-conscious mindset.
• Ability to work both as part of a team and independently when needed.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Prior manufacturing, production, packaging, or warehouse experience preferred but not required.
• Experience with packaging, packing, or general labor in a production environment is beneficial.
• Familiarity with packaging and quality inspection processes is an advantage.
• Experience with order picking, material handling, or similar roles is helpful.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain focus and attention to detail during repetitive tasks.
• Team-oriented mindset with the ability to communicate material needs and issues clearly.
• Willingness to rotate into different tasks such as baler operation and housekeeping as needed.
• Proactive attitude with the initiative to keep production running efficiently.

Work Environment

This role is based in a fast-paced manufacturing facility with moderate to high noise levels and frequent exposure to loud production equipment. You will work around moving machinery and production equipment and may experience temperature fluctuations depending on the production area. The environment includes exposure to dust, fumes, and airborne particles. Safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) are required based on the specific work area, and all safety procedures must be followed. The position requires standing and walking for most of the shift, frequent bending, twisting, reaching, and repetitive hand movements, as well as lifting various weights throughout the day. Dress expectations include adherence to facility safety and appearance guidelines, with specific requirements provided for packers regarding acceptable attire.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Glasgow, MO.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $18.25/hr.
