Job Description

Job Description

About the Role

FirstCarbon Solutions (FCS) is seeking a motivated and detail‑oriented Environmental Analyst (CG02/03) to join our multidisciplinary environmental consulting team. This role is ideal for candidates who enjoy research, writing, and problem‑solving, and who are eager to build a career supporting California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance.

The Environmental Analyst will collaborate with project managers and technical specialists across multiple disciplines—including biology, cultural resources, noise, air quality, and greenhouse gas emissions—to support the preparation of environmental documents for public and private development projects.

Compensation: $22 - $30 Hourly

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research, organize, and analyze data on a wide range of environmental topics (land use, biological resources, cultural resources, air quality, noise, greenhouse gases, utilities, and more) to support CEQA and NEPA environmental review, consistent with established guidelines.
  • Draft clear, accurate, and technically sound sections of environmental documents, including Initial Studies, EIRs/EISs, Addenda, and Exemptions, incorporating sub‑consultant reports, field data, and personal research.
  • Review development site plans, conceptual layouts, and technical studies to support impact analysis.
  • Support Project Managers by providing research, background information, and document content needed to meet project requirements.
  • Communicate with internal technical specialists across multiple disciplines, and external agencies, authorities, and sub‑consultants to collect and verify relevant data, and integrate findings into environmental documents.
  • Conduct site visits to support environmental analysis.
  • Perform administrative and quality‑control tasks such as document formatting, file organization, and consistency checks.
  • Gain practical, hands‑on experience in the environmental consulting industry through project work and mentorship.
Skills

  • Strong research and technical writing skills
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Thorough knowledge of written and verbal business English, including spelling, grammar, and vocabulary
  • Efficient written and oral communication abilities
  • Ability to handle assignments and confidential information with professionalism, tact, and discretion
  • Ability to receive direction, ask informed questions, and seek clarification when needed
  • Positive attitude and strong teamwork skills
Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies, Planning, Geography, Biology, or a related field.
  • At least 1 year of professional experience OR formal education in related field inclusive of technical writing.
  • Strong writing, editing, and analytical skills with the ability to translate complex information into clear, concise text.
  • Ability to interpret and summarize regulatory requirements, technical reports, and environmental data.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast‑paced consulting environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with CEQA, NEPA, and environmental planning concepts.
  • Experience reviewing or interpreting development site plans, engineering drawings, or GIS maps.
  • Prior experience in customer service or office administration, demonstrating transferable skills such as communication, task management, and client interaction.
What We Offer

  • Mentorship from experienced CEQA/NEPA practitioners and technical specialists.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and advancement within the firm.
  • Exposure to a wide variety of project types and environmental disciplines.
  • A collaborative, supportive team environment.
