Duties

• Perform comprehensive dental cleanings, including scaling, polishing, and fluoride treatments to maintain optimal oral health.
• Conduct patient assessments by reviewing medical histories, vital signs, and current dental conditions to inform treatment plans.
• Assist with chairside procedures in general dentistry settings, providing support to dentists during examinations and treatments.
• Take medical imaging such as X-rays, ensuring proper technique and patient safety.
• Manage electronic health records (EHR/EMR systems) on Dentrix for accurate documentation of patient visits, treatment notes, and medical records.
• Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions to promote lifelong dental health.
• Follow strict infection control protocols using aseptic techniques to prevent cross-contamination and ensure a sterile environment.
• Review documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with HIPAA regulations regarding patient privacy.
• Support pediatric patients with specialized care tailored to their needs while maintaining a friendly and approachable demeanor.
• Collaborate with the dental team using four-handed dentistry techniques to enhance efficiency and patient comfort.
• Assist in medical coding and documentation review for billing purposes when necessary.
• Maintain a clean, organized operatories environment adhering to OSHA standards for infection control and safety.

Requirements

• Valid state licensure as a Dental Hygienist with current CPR certification.
• Proven experience working in dental offices or clinics with familiarity in general dentistry procedures; pediatric dentistry experience is a plus.
• Proficiency in dental software such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix for scheduling, charting, and record management.
• Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control practices, and aseptic techniques.
• Ability to perform detailed patient assessments including vital signs measurement and medical history review.
• Excellent communication skills to educate patients effectively about oral health practices.
• Familiarity with EMR systems, medical coding, and documentation review processes.
• Knowledge of HIPAA regulations ensuring confidentiality of patient information.
