Job Summary
This part-time police officer position provides support services to static security details, judicial security, courtroom security, and other ancillary support services to augment Bartlett Police Department operations. This position requires no more than twenty (20) hours of work per week or a total of no more than one hundred (100) hours per month. Duties are performed under general supervision in accordance with well-established police practices, standards, and departmental policy and regulations. They may occasionally involve hazardous or strenuous tasks but always involve the exercise of initiative and independent judgment (sometimes, but rarely, can endanger life and/or property). Supervision is received from a Police Lieutenant who provides close and detailed guidance and who reviews work through observation of work activities.
Job Functions
- Assisting with calls for services involving crimes and assistance.
- Administering Medical Treatment when necessary.
- Safeguarding sensitive and private information concerning individuals.
- Assisting with maintaining and restoring order at gatherings or public events.
- Preparing reports on accidents or public complaints.
- Assisting with the preservation of crime scenes.
- Assisting the general public.
- Providing information and direction.
- Escorting authorized personnel in the transport of money or other valuables
- Maintain an awareness of worker safety guidelines and standards and apply these in performing daily activities and tasks.
- Performing other duties as required or assigned.
- Must occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
- Occasional threat to personal life and safety.
- May be exposed to inclement weather, undesirable social situations and/or environments.
- Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks, and to use firearms, motor vehicles, and other specialized police equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED Equivalency
Special Requirements
- Candidates must have previously served as a Tennessee POST certified law enforcement officer in the past five (5) years and ended their service in good standing or
- Previously served as a part-time, temporary, reserve, or auxiliary law enforcement officer or special deputy and completed one hundred twenty (120) hours of Tennessee POST-approved training by the employing agency and ended their service in good standing.
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Must be able to drive and hold a valid Driver's license that must remain valid as condition of continued employment.
- Must not have been convicted of or pleaded guilty to or entered a plea of nolo contendre to any felony or any violation of any federal or state laws relating to force, violence, theft, dishonesty, gambling, liquor, or controlled substances, and not have been released or discharged under other than honorable discharge from any of the armed forces of the United States.
- Must have his/her fingerprints on file with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation
- Must pass a physical examination by a licensed physician (during the employment process after a conditional offer of employment has been tendered by the City, at the City's expense and under the requirements outlined in General Order 05-06).
- Must have good moral character
- Must be free of all apparent mental disorders as determined by a City administered psychological examination post conditional offer of employment at the City's expense.
- Must pass an oral interview process.
- Must pass a drug test.
- Bartlett resident preferred, but not required.
- Non-smoker preferred.
