All employees must regard themselves as an ‘owner’ of Genesis and keep our patients at the center of everything we do *- always.*## Position Details:Work Shift:Day Shift (United States of America)Scheduled Weekly Hours:40Department:Trauma Services## Overview of Position:This position is responsible for obtaining, abstracting, correcting and entering appropriate patient data, both concurrently and retrospectively on trauma patients. Will assign Injury Severity Scores to these patients in order to maintain an accurate trauma patient database for the trauma program in accordance with ACS (American college of Surgeons). The Registrar created and maintains clinical and statistical data, AIS coding, ICD-9-CM and ICD-10 CM codes, abstracts various data elements as required by the American College of Surgeons, the National Trauma Data Bank, Central Ohio Trauma System, the Ohio State Trauma Registry. Will utilize outcomes to facilitate continued education for referring hospital, physicians and system improvement.**ESSENTIAL DUTIES** 1. Collects trauma patient information through chart requisition and medical record review, reviews and audits and reports findings. 2. Interfaces with physician offices, clinical services for follow-up information 3. Accesses current database for each patient to record accurate diagnosis, procedures, operations, complications and discharge status. 4. Prepares monthly summary of all trauma-related deaths. 5. Prepares and presents monthly and annual statistical reports for each trauma meeting as requested. 6. Codes severity for all traumatic injuries using doctor/nurse notes, pre-hospital information, radiology reports, operative reports and consultations. 7. Prepares and submits data summaries to the Ohio Department of Health, as requested. 8. Enters data into NTDB (National Trauma Data Bank) for national reporting on trauma, hospital benchmarking and ACS 9. Assists with the preparation for trauma verification. 10. Maintains a relationship with all regional facilities and emergency service agencies that send trauma patients to Genesis. Provides follow-up on patient referrals and assures timely feedback to referring physicians, nurses and EMS personnel 11. Represents Genesis in a variety of local and regional public/professional meeting 12. Remains current on injury control issues and methodology by participating in programs offered by the Injury Prevention Research Center, CDC and ATS. 13. Provides research & analysis, generates reports on trauma populations, and conducts data searches for trauma related research projects.**QUALIFICATIONS** 1. Medical Assistant Certificate (MA), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Multi Skilled Technician (MST), Paramedic, or similar clinical education desired. 2. Experience in healthcare field. 3. Knowledge of medical terminology, levels of care, treatment modalities, and the present health care delivery system. 4. Strong verbal and written communication, typing and computer skills. 5. Ability to work independently and under pressure in a complex working environment. 6. Within 12 months the must attend The American Trauma Society’s Trauma Registry course or equivalent and the Association of the Advancement of Automotive Medicine’s Injury Scaling Course. 7. Familiarity with ICD-10 codes encouraged.**PATIENT CENTERED CARE & BEHAVIORAL EXPECTATIONS** 1. Promotes Patient and Employee Safety • Demonstrates safe Patient Handling (i.e. transfers, transport, care administration, nutrition, medication, etc.) • Demonstrates safe Materials Handling (i.e. appropriate use and disposal of chemicals, infectious wastes, etc.) • Demonstrates appropriate knowledge of Infectious Disease precautions and use of proper protective equipment • Demonstrates Slips/Trips and Falls Awareness. • Actively contributes to maintaining a safe, clean and quiet environment.**WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS** The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
