POSITION SUMMARY:

The Title I Elementary Teacher provides language arts, reading, and/or mathematics instructions to students that need additional support. This can be accomplished in a variety of settings at the school level. This position is supported entirely by Federal Grant funds and is a year-to-year position. Employment is contingent upon: (a) the needs of the school, (b) the needs of the district, (c) availability of the Grant funds, and (d) satisfactory job performance. This position reports to the Principal .

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Instructs students, using various teaching methods, such as lecture, audiovisual aids, demonstration and other materials to supplement presentations relative to specific content field. Assigns lessons and corrects homework; administers tests to evaluate students’ progress, record results and issue reports to inform parents of progress. Maintains discipline in classroom. Supervise behavior outside the classroom (i.e., halls, bus, lunch/cafeteria, rest room duty.) Prepares course outlines and objectives according to curriculum guidelines or state and local requirements. Conducts parent/teacher conferences to review student’s progress, performance, and behavior problems. Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences and teacher training workshops. All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.

KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s, Master’s, Specialist, and/or Doctorate degree in Education required related to grade level and content area. Minimum of one (1) year of teaching experience preferred. Makes recommendations or decisions which usually affect the entire department/school. Certification by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission in Early Childhood Education (or full certification in Early Childhood Education in a state that participates in certification reciprocity with Georgia). OR Passing scores on the GACE Basic Skills Reading, Writing, and Math tests or exemption through SAT, ACT, or GRE scores. A passing score on the GACE Content Test in Early Childhood. Enrollment in a state-approved certification program in Early Childhood. Field(s)/Endorsement(s):

EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION

Varied; supervisor is available to review established broad objectives; independent judgment is required. Requires regular, frequent communication with internal school administrative personnel. Requires regular, frequent communication with different constituencies: external agencies, parents, community etc. Excellent classroom management required. May be designated as a lead teacher or trainer. Applies, recommends, and implements technology concepts to improve the effectiveness of instruction and pedagogy. Constant (Daily) - to exercise the duty of care and protection of the health, safety, security, welfare, well-being, and best interests of the district's various stakeholders. Normal classroom/school setting. Must be able to stand and walk approximately seven (7) to seven and one-half (7½) hours per day. Light duty - On most occasions sitting at a desk or table; intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping.Light lifting or carrying; twenty (20) lbs. or less.
